Saflips or 2 X 2's

I'd like everyones opinion on what is better. I know there are better holders but I'm talking about many inexpensive coins.

I think saflips are better looking but worry about rub on unc. coins.
2 x 2's just seem difficult with the staples but the coin doesn't slide.

Any advice?

For proofs, Saflips. For business strikes, either.

Thanks Russ. I would think that proofs or choice BU's would get scratched sliding them into the saflips (at least that's what I've heard). This has not been your experience?

For circulated, I'd have no problem sliding them into the saflips.

Haven't had a problem with that. Just make sure you don't let the coin hit the edge on the way in.

I like heat sealing the Saflips after the coin is inside. That way the coin doesn't get exposed to humidity and gasses and the coin doesn't move around.

I am a big fan of 2x2s. Just make sure to get a flat clinch stapler. They really cut down on accidental staple scratches.

I've not done that, but thought about it. I had always wondered if the heating of the plastic might release injurious vapors to be trapped with the coin. Any one know?

I bought a small impulse sealer off of E-bay for $15 (see picture below). I do not think the heat sealing makes the plastic give off anything harmful to the coins because you just heat it enough for a second or 2 just hot enough to seal it, but if you used a PVC flip it might be bad (but you shouldn't be using a PVC flip for storage anyway).

Good info - How exactly do you seal it once it's in the flip... just once on the open end ?

Yeah, just once on the open end. One time I got really fancy and sealed in a little copper strip above a proof jefferson after I already sealed in the Jefferson. I used the copper strip as a tag. Here is a pic (this is the only pic I already have of one of my heat sealed flips, that is why I am showing this one)
