  • I did take English in my first year of pharmacy school, but I know I never took Philosophy 101.

    Stone:
With regard to why I post here? Quite simple, I'm a HOF autograph collector. I acutally have a very nice collection. I'm here to discuss baseball related items. Sometimes these discussions go "OT" as this thread has. It's sad that you can't appreciate my opinion regarding life (and my life style) and don't want me to post here because I don't see things your way.

  • LOL

You took English classes in "Pharmacy School"????

Uh hello...English classes are taught in undergraduate programs....not professional graduate programs like pharmacy.

Exactly which "pharmacy school" did you go that teaches college level English courses?

  • 5th scale.....you're sure asking a lot of questions regarding pharmacy school. Do you plan to become a pharmacist or something? Anyway, I went to St. Louis College of Pharmacy. This is an all pharmacy school that students start right out of HS. The first year sucked as it consisted of a lot of non drug courses such as English, History, and Biology. When I attended the school 12 years ago I had the choice to puruse a BS or doctor degree in pharmacy. The BS degree was a 5 year course and the doctor degree was a six year course. Today, students are required to go the 6 years. The school was also reconstructed from when I was a student.

By far the hardest course I took during college was organic chemistry. It was a nightmare!

  • My 2 cents Moose your doing great send me the address I got some cool will clark autos to send the kid . Second this is a collectors forum not a political thumpin ground. I hope most of you are getting a laugh out of rich g hes entitled to his opinion but this is the wrong place for it. Plus hes border line littleman syndrome if you ask me. (I'm sure he'll jump right back for that one) But for the serious collectors I talke to Cosetta Robins this morning at collectors universe if you tired of listning to rich ramble about issues send the email to webmaster@collectors univers put this thread title in the description and address it to her she said if theres enough complaints it will be handled.
No offense rich I'm a political debater and if you want toemail chat over your nonsense thats fine leave it off the collectors chat board. But this is a site for collectors and when you wen't off topic with the pollitcal rhetoric that just shows you are ignorant and just need to argue about anything to feel better about yourself (of course we understand yiou can't help yourself thats why you will be posting anothercalling me childish names i'm sure)

But back to moose I actually have alot of will clark memorabilia and would love to help out pm me or email me so I can help.
  • Junkie:
No offense taken. However, reread the thread. I gave my opinionon in the thread. Others who didn't agree with it turned it into a political thread not you. I guess maybe I should talk to Cosetta too. Heck, I have not seen anything you have brought to the discussion table regarding hobby related topics, so I guess you need to go to. All I did was give my opinion REGARDING THE THREAD and then taking care of others that were attacking me for my opinion. Do you really expect me to ignore people that are attacking me? I'm sure when she reads this this and every other thread that I participated in she will realize that in just about every case, I stayed on topic and someone else took it OT. I'm sure she will also see that some members get upset after they read my honest opinion and then start trouble with me. I'm not sure why these people think that everyone must think like them. Some guys here are a little too soft!

    The bottom line is......
I'm willing to stay on topic and I'm not the person who takes threads OT.

Well, Looks like Rich was hitting the holiday brew yesterday. On the other board Rich WAS a member of this was normal and almost anticipated because everyone knew he was sitting around all day popping a few cold ones. Rich likes to pick arguements and actually enjoys it. So think twice before feeding this poster.

(do a name search on richg on the beckett boards and you will see what I am saying is correct. There was even a time he admitted to picking a "fight" because he was bored and wanted some entertainment. )
I am on a budget and I am not afraid to use it!!

Really? When? My cousin and his wife graduated from there in '96 or '97, I think.

  • mccardguy.....The other board acutally was composed of 50% kids that are just looking for trouble on a daily basis, 25% adults who say one thing but their actions prove just the opposite. The last 25% of the group were actually very good people. Then there is a dude there by the Name of Lawrence. Since he is either a mod or best friends with one, he thought he could get away with spamming the board when everybody else wasn't allowed to do it.
With this said, I'm sure glad I'm no longer part of the idiot club.....oh I meant beckett.

Go back and reread my post:

<< To me freedom is all about living in the woods without any neighbors or public roads to see. When I'm outside at home it gives me the feeling that I'm all alone on this planet.......ahhh the peace and quiet. >>

This is what many will remember Rich.

    Why bother posting here?

This is a community of collectors - we are "internet neighbors" by proximity and our keyboard is the public road/access to each other.

It would seem we are just getting in your way?
    mike

<< <i> and don't want me to post here because I don't see things your way. >>

No where did I say I didn't want you to post here - that's your inference - I was being "rhetorical" - I asked
you "why bother posting here?" Based on your assertion that you can live without neighbors.

WE ARE NEIGHBORS here - we share our thought, feelings, beliefs, values etc. WITH respect to our collections - nobody collects in a vacuum - there's a real person behind these collectibles.

You said "you are here to discuss baseball related items" yet inject your cynical world view, at times.

Again, I wished everyone a happy 4th and asked, perhaps, what people might have been thinking in 1776.

We collect here with goals, values, POVs etc - I wondered what people were thinking - the best you could come up with is: To me freedom is all about living in the woods without any neighbors or public roads to see

You brought all of this on yourself - you are no victim - now - is there a bit of piling on? Yes.

I wish we could start all over - and I promise you Mark - aka Morrell - regrets losing it a bit - but I have to say: you bring out the best in people.

    mike

EDIT: I realize some might find this post confusing - summary - I did not and would never want to tell someone not to participate here - that's not my right - I would tell someone to lighten up but that's the extent of it. Rich is 'reading' into a rhetorical statement about 'why' anyone would post here if they didn't want to have neighbors.

What am I? "A potted plant?"

The difference in having real neighbors and having online neighbors is that I can turn the online people off anytime I want. How do you think it fly if I told a real next door neighbor to go back in your house becuase I want some privacy? Do you see the difference now. I don't mind people piling up on me as long as they don't mind when I shoot back. However, I'm also willing to stay on topic. Time for me to use my day off and get some things done.

    I agree.

But you were the one who said you desired a true "freedom WITHOUT" neighbors. That's a strong statement.

Fact is, you have burned your bridge here - most people here choose to respect each other AS IF they were real neighbors. Tho, you are correct, I can turn the computer off - that's a fact. But, I would not choose to take advantage of the fact that we are not face to face.

Rich - you have gone down a slippery slope and I think it's gonna be hard to climb out of the hole you dug.

And for that I'm truly sad since we all enjoy being respected and liked.

  • I have told my neighbors they gotta leave. No problem. Esp. if its a "special" night,I would throw them out.

I opened my mail today from a weekend out and I had 70+ emails. I thought someone cleaned out all my Naxcom cards. Nope. Just this thread.

To stay on topic, I mailed out some Will Clarks. $.70 postage for $1 worth of cards. No problem. Life's too short. Pick your battles.

80sjunkie - your PM is turned off. You can PM me with your email address and I'll send you the contact info.

The direction that this thread has taken certainly mirrors our society today. We have some extreme opinions on opposing sides, and most of us in the middle, and everyone believes they are right. And yes, politics seems to creep into any discussion these days.

As I stated before there is now no doubt in my mind that this lady is 100% legit. If any of you who joined this late want to help her out please PM me and I'll send you her contact info.

In regards to the "lowball" offer, I had an item priced (Will Clark signed card) at $15.00/BO. She offered $3.00. I have had a few of these cards around since 1992 when I had a few cards signed at a private signing WC did at $17 a pop. I POLITELY told the lady via email reply that $3.00 was way too low since Clark 1) does not do card shows and 2) does not do any more private signings, and except for a few appearances during Spring Training where he occasionally does some coaching, he's a difficult signature to get. She replied with the story about the theft and that she had purchased another signed card of Clark for $3.00 off eBay.

I replied that I sympathized with her situtation but still couldn't go that low on my signed Clark cards. I told her I had about 100 regular cards of Clark I'd be happy to give her if she sent me here address. Those cards were just taking up space, much as I too am/was a fan of Will Clark, but clearly here was a way to get them out of my boxes and in the hands of someone who would appreciate them. I also told here that forgeries on eBay were abundant and offered to give an opinion on the one she bought. She pointed me to the auction and it looked OK to me, so she got a good deal. So started this little correspondence with her after which I thought..."hmm...maybe the guys on the PSA board would be willing to help out..." and this now infamous thread was born.

RichG and I are probably polar opposites. He chooses to distrust first until he's proven wrong. I choose to trust everyone until proven wrong. If someone held him up for money he'd no doubt shoot first and ask questions later. Me, I'd try to convince the guy to put the guy/knife away and give him the money, thereby saving him from having committed a crime. It's never happened, and most of you would probably argue that I'd be the stupidest person on the planet to do that, but that's the way I am. However we do have a common ground. Given a choice, I would gladly live out in the woods, away from neighbors. I'm not anti-social, and not paranoid, but I REALLY enjoy quiet and solitude.

While I don't want to get too "touchy-feely" here (sorry RichG, it's a California thing...) my point is that no matter how different we appear to be whether it be attitude or opinion, there is always some common ground to build on. On this board we all share one thing in common, and that is the joy of collecting whatever it is we collect. And, as RichG pointed out, in this format we have the freedom to tune out anyone we choose to.

If my bridges are burned as you so called say for me giving my honest opinions, then so be it. I'm not here to make friends anyway but instead to have discussions related to the hobby of collecting baseball cards and memorabilia. However, sometimes these discussions no doubt turn OT. If you don't like me because you don't agree with me....fine. If you don't like me because "I'm not a people person" and once I leave work I don't want to see another person besides my family....fine. However, as long as I can help it, I will never have neihbors living next to me.

    Rich

What makes you think I don't like you? I would rather you read my words and not make inferences.

What I meant by the burnt bridge is the "die is cast" - you've made some - IMO - severe statements.

I respect everyone here - your honesty, at times, can be like a rusty dart to the eyeball - but it doesn't in any way diminish me or show me, personally, any disrespect.

I just think you are coming off as a bit reclusive in a room full of people making friends.

In a way, friendship and sharing information here kind of goes hand in hand. If one just wanted info, they could read the many boards and bookmark the stuff. People enjoy the interaction.

I am not trying to butt heads with you - but I want to share a fact - one of the people who I most butted heads with years ago - is now a lifelong friend who I admire.

I apologize if it looks like I'm singling you out - and yes, your opinions are valid and I don't expect everyone to think like myself. That would be very boring! image

Sometimes Rich comes off as being harsh or repetitive, but I actually think that the controversy(if that's what you want to call it) he invokes really makes the boards entertaining. How many of you go to your jobs and are so bored, that you hope something exciting would happen. This is what Rich does. You may or may not like him, but he definitely gets people to react, and that makes for entertaining reading. Well, guys...flame away.....

Talk about flame wars. This reminds me of the days of CoolHandLuke. This thread got long real quick and I read ALL of it.

Some people are more cynical than others in their worldview, so be it. People tend to engage in more crime and dishonesty when anonymous than if they are face to face with someone.

You are absoultely right. I just wish more people believed that. It especially hurts me to hear older people say how bad "young people are these days" (I'm 27) like their previous generations were so great (never mind the fact you had among other things segregation and forcing people to fight in a war many did not believe in) and mine and younger ones are so bad. The reality is every generation has somethings that are better and some that are worse. And after hearing it for the past 2000 years or more, you sorta brush off any and all claims that our generation is the last because we are "destroying ourselves". image

Rich G quote from ebay boards as to why kids should not have cards given to them or be allowed to buy wax packs.

<< <i>"I have always said buying packs are like playing the local lottery"

    A few points......

1)I agree 100% with the quote above.

2)Since you know that busting wax is a gamble, you should not have been suprised when you lost your $10.

3)Anyone who can't afford to lose money should not gamble to begin with.

***4)This is why I see baseball card collecting (especially busting wax) as an adult hobby and why I don't donate my extra cards to kids. It really irritates me when i see parents letting kids gamble with regard to busting wax. Like I said before, any parent who allows thier kid to bust wax midas well take them to the local Casino. Furthermore, I think it should be illegal for kids to buy packs of cards just like it is for them to buy a lottery ticket.

I was the originator of this thread and I stand by the belief that the woman was sincere. She did send me several emails thanking me for cards that I sent here and for posting here as she received many card from board members, most without return addresses or notes and asked me to relay her gratitude, which I did somewhere in this thread...
