That sucks. From your home? Car?
Didn't someone have access to some dealer network alert system? VAMber Alert? Seriously... there was a theft reported a while back and someone put the info out to all dealers in the area via the web. I don't remember the exact details.

Post Leroys pic(s) of that one. Any mark specific to that coin in the photographed region should positively identify the piece.

Are any slabbed? If so, do you have the tag numbers? Either slabbed or not, if any were bought from the web where images were available, they might stiull be accessible for people to use to ID them.

<FONT size=1>Manuel, Sorry to hear about your theft. Odds of them showing up in MD are pretty low. Chances are the theif will not know anything about their special VAM status either.

I'm up in Flagstaff... I'll alert my local B&M shop (American Bullion & Coin) that there may be some errant VAMs on the loose. One of the dealers that works there is very much into collecting VAMs so any additional info (location of diagnostic scratches etc...) will greatly help your cause.

Good thing they weren't ASEs or some modern 69 and 70 grade stuff. There are unique hits all over them. Will watch for them. eBay is a likely place for them to show up, probably even moreso than the local coin shop.

ABC123 -- He has even a better thing going for him. His coins are VAMs and he has pics, including a discovery coin. Today you cannot get more attentive eyes than the legion of harcore seasoned VAMmers. Slabs get cracked, but one cannot remove the nick on the O of OF on a Morgan VAM that is being sought by serious collectors.

Belated "that sucks" from me. Fortunately, three of those coins are pretty well documented, so there's hope that someone will spot them before they're too heavily dispersed. If that's all that was taken, it doesn't sound like one of the well organized dealer hits that happen during and after shows. I'll keep an eye out online.

Interesting. You're checking as if the thief would know vams. So you've got a knowledgable collector who is also a thief. You've never given details of where and under what circumstances this occured. Sounds like you may have an idea who.

Those coins probably went to a local pawn shop for $1.50/coin. I'd focus there.

Not quite, Bill. I'm hoping the coins pop up , and some sharp eyed vammer's spot one of the coins.

If I had an idea or even a hint as to who stole the coins, they would no longer be stolen.

Opps, my mistake only 12 hours.

These coins have not been recovered.

I had a phone call from a female w/a german accent telling me she had the coins and would meet me in exchange for the reward I posted. She never arrived and the phone number she used could not be traced to an address by the police.

She used the name Connie, if this woman sounds familiar or these coins pop up.....you know who to contact. Thanks!

I hate thieves- and I'm looking out fer ya buuddy-

I've hit a few of the pawn shops and asked- as well as some of the local coin shops-

might want to take an add out in the paper- say your lookin to collect rare silver dollars that have funny marks all over them..

as dumb as this sounds- you would be 'surprised' what may crawl out from under the rock besides a scorpion.

Becareful of calls like this. In some cases they may be looking to lure you out and rob you of the reward money, other times they may be just trying to get you out of the house so they can hit it again. (Someone tried that on me once. They were very specific about when I was to be some place. When he wasn't there at that time I got suspicious and called my next door neighbor and asked him to take alook around our house. Sure enough the neighbor caught him in the process of trying to break in through a basement window.)
