This thread proves once again, the incredible diversity of the coin hobby. In sportscards, the "Holy Grail" is a unanimous decision being the 1909 T-206 Honus Wagner. In comics, the "Holy Grail" is undeniably the 1939 Action Comics #1 with the origin and first appearance of Superman. Many of the coins stated on this thread carry a valid argument to being the "Holy Grail" in the coin hobby. For me, it is the 1873-CC "No Arrows" 10c -Eliasberg Specimen-.
Someone mentioned the 1793 Strawberry Leaf Cent. As a collector of early coppers I'd have to agree that this would be one of my personal "Holy Grails".
As a seated buff I'd have to go with the 1873-cc NA coinage. che dime is unique but I consider the James Stack gem 73cc NA 25c to be my holy grail. The still unknown 1870-s quarter was supposedly minted and placed in the cornerstone of a building. That would be pretty interesting if it ever surfaces. But you can't beat the enduring romance of the 1870 CC to 1873 CC coinage.
If it was about money and fame, the former J-1776 or an 1849 or 1877 $50 Union would be the bomb.
Known world wide as "The Comet"...this Morgan is textile and colorfully toned - it is widely accepted as the World's Finest Toned Morgan (with apologies to stman for my earlier use of the term on my Peace dollar) - it resides in the Andy Kimmel collection I believe. He might have even made it, I am not sure.
I would pay $25,000 for the coin right now but I bet it won't come up for sale for quite some time.
Is this an altered date coin made from a 1964 Peace Dollar?
