Had a couple of free hours today and went to a shop about 20 miles away I had not visited in some time. Glad I did.
The owner saw me come in and handed me a bunch of pre 1959 mint sets, pre 1965 proof sets and some SMS sets for me to look through.
I ended up buying a 1962 proof set, a 1964 proof set and a 1967 SMS set. I also bought a 1942 Proof Jefferson (not the silver coin) to add to a 1942 proof set I am assembling.
In the 1962 Proof set is a CAM half, a CAM dime, a CAM cent and a CAM quarter. The quarter however is toned deep orange on both sides. A wild looking CAM quarter.
The 1967 SMS set had a hazed over half. Under the haze were nice deep mirrors and frosted devices. I bathed the half and a very nice CAM, possibly DCAM half emerged.
Last but not least, the 1964 proof set contains an Accented Hair CAM half, probably a 66-67 grade. The mirrored fields are very nice and the devices have decent frost. In looking for over 7 years, I finally found a raw AH CAM 64 half. My silver short set of CAM Kennedies is now complete (8 coins in all). The prior AH 64's I have found (3 of them) have been only brilliant. The best part was that the cost of the 1964 set was about $12.00.
Not bad for a quick trip to a shop. I even told the dealer the 64 half was an accented hair variety. He said he had heard the term but did not know what it was. I gave him the story about how they came about.
