1878 VAM-9 Crossover ** PICS ADDED ** end of thread
It was done across the street though. I submitted my 1878 ANACS 60PL VAM-9 to NGC at Long Beach. (The value of the coins I walked into that show with was WAY beyond sanity. Never will do that again.) They crossed it at that grade. I believe that was a decent way to spent 140 bucks despite the "buy the coin, not the holder" best advice.
That makes two high value coins in my Top-100 registry set that have no score yet. If they get around to it, that would be nice, but I am not that into registries.

That is a great great coin. Mega-congratulations on both finding it to begin with, but also getting NGC to cross it.
You double suck on the crossover!!
Now I'll never see that one. I'll have to cross my NGC-58 to PEE-CEE.

I suck all the way to the bank on that one, coindeuce.
For those who don't kow the story on this coin, here it is. I was at Long Beach last September and the first table I stopped at was Numismatic Services'. Saw a stack of three 1878 8TF and figured I would take a look at them. This VAM-9 was at the bottom as it was ANACS and was the lowest of the three grades. BUT IT WAS ATTRIBUTED. I confirmed the attribution immediately and paid their asking price -- which was a steal. Turning around, I saw Jeff Oxman maybe 25 feet or so from me. Showed it to him and anyone who knows Jeff and 8TFs can imagine his reaction, especially to the price. Anyway, the seller just listed it on their website the same morning and coindeuce contacted them it practically right after I bought it. I huess this balances out some karma surplus I have from somewhere.

I think you should write a book on what you have learned collecting coins, your good with it.
If I only had a dollar for every VAM I have...err...nevermind...I do!!

And you really suck. When you sell, a PEE CEE 60PL would bring moooooon money.

I like the toning on the bar wing too. It's unbelievable that they tagged it as VAM-22 when it is clearly VAM-19A and that is even what was on the submission form.
