Good date, I like those later date seated half dollars. It seems they are easier to find in PROOF than in business strike, but they aren't easy in either.

Sorry, but there is absolutely no way to determine an accurate grade of a proof coin from images - I have seen far too many where a multitude of hairlines (and/or light cleaning or wiping) on the coin does not appear in its images.

The seller included this in the listing:"For the sake of accuracy, it is absolutely pristine. There are three miniscule hairlines in the right obverse field. You'll need a 10 x loop to see them. The reverse is immaculate." If that's not accurate he may get the coin back.

That is disturbing because the seller (in this auction) says he has owned the coin for 25 years. I actually saw the coin when greatsouthern had it, but I won't buy from them. I didn't recogengize it the second time around. Dang! That sure bursts my bubble. I also see the seller lost a fair amount of money in the re-sale.

I have a feeling that the coin was on consignment with a hidden reserve in the first auction, and it was won by a "bidder" with 2 feedbacks who didn't actually pay for it...

It looks like a PR-68 from the photos, and I haven't seen anyone selling raw PR-68 seated on ebay or anywhere else for quite some time, so that pretty much guarantees that it's going to be a hairlined PR-62 when you get it. If it actually looks like the picture, you got a tremendously nice coin for next to nothing, and we'll all be sorry we didn't bid.

He doesn't "really" say this. At least that's what a lawyer could say. He states "I'm just a collector and have enjoyed this for 23 years". Maybe he's enjoyed collecting for 23 years.

He also states "...AND I hope the responsibilty of proper ownership will continue for another 25 years" He doesn't state that he was the person who owned it for 25 years.

Also "When you've got your daughter getting married next June and a son graduating from the Naval Academy at the same time, my real pride and joys take precedence. Funny, I acquired these about the time they were born. I never thought they might pay for receptions and grad gifts and on and on." He states that he acquired these about the same time that they were born. At first read he could be talking about his proof type set. Maybe he's just talking about his pride and joy.

At least he states that he'll accept returns.

After 2000.00 in lose situations on E-BAY I will never buy raw again,even the slabbed coin are iffy on that site.My coin ventures are all about shows and in hand now(I will go to the BST forums for a particular coin I like that is for sale)one thing is for sure,Ebay is not the virgin it once was.

I received the coin today 6/17. I really didn't think the seller was going to send it. He first said he had misplaced it and would refund my money. I called him on the phone and we talked for a while - he felt the coin was worth more money, but said he would honor the auction. It still didn't arrive so I called him again - I got more excuses, but it finally arrived today. I won't be able to post pictures until tomorrow, but it is a very nice coin. It does have a hit in the right obverse field that was not described in the listing, but I'm guessing it's still a PR65 or 66. I will let PCGS be the judge. The reverse is flawless - no hairlines, or marks of any kind. I'll put images tomorrow. Overall it is well worth the money ( and then some).

I never received a response to my question. I didn't press the issue because I didn't want to put him on the defenceive - I just wanted to see the coin. He again stated that he has owned the coin for over 20 years so I don't know what to think. It really does not matter now I have the coin and it's a keeper so I'll let the matter drop.

I apologize for the poor quality of the images. I'm not at home and the shots were taken hand held. It is also difficult to image a toned proof coin and get both the toning and the luster. I just don't have the set-up here to do the job. Anyway here it is:

I am seeing hairlines on the obverse, but the reverse looks like it has a ton of lines around the arrows, under the birds head, above and thru IN in IGWT etc. Are these lines or is the pic just making it look that way? If they are lines, with surfaces like these, the grade on this beauty will fall like a rock.

Your pics as others have stated make the coin look very hairlined. And would prevent a grade higher then 63. More likely an 61 or 62.

Hopefully it is just the pic's but on my screen it looks like the coin has tons of hairlines..like it was polished(coin, not the dies).

The coin is in a capital plastic holder and the lines you see are on it not the coin. Here are two shots with it out of the holder. They are still not very good, but it's the best I can do with the equipment and software I have with me.

It looks a lot better than what I thought you'd get. I believe that the seller probably did own the coin for 20 years, and he may have tried to sell it unsuccessfully through Great Southern before selling it himself. I hope you get a PR64 CAM or PR65 CAM out of PCGS, which is what I'd guess from the second set of pictures you posted. Do let us know how it turns out.
