New Purchase: 1885-O Pretty Blue & Rust End Roll Toned NGC MS-64 Morgan Dollar

StuartStuart Posts: 9,831 ✭✭✭✭✭
I am pleased to have purchased this pretty 1885-O Blue & Rust Toned NGC MS-64 Morgan Dollar at auction from a fellow forum member this evening.

I think that she's possibly an end roll toner based on the color pattern. Please let me know if you agree, and also what you think of her! image

I agree that it looks like an end roll, that rust color is interesting, a neat combo with the blue.

I thought it was EOR toning when I saw it listed. Minutes before it closed, I was surprised at the high bid and it looks like it closed at a much lower price than I would have guessed. Very pretty coin and nice pick-up.

Super nice coin Stuart. NGC should have the Star Designation on this one.

I would really like to see the rim of that coin..........is the color graded across the whole rim, or is there a seam?

Doug: I assumed that this Morgan was likely End Roll Toned because of the toning coloration pattern, and the fact that it's a one-sided toner.

Wouldn't one expect an envelope toned Morgan to have two-sided toning??

Each case can be different. For example, if two or more Morgans were back to back in an envelope, then just one side would tone with the geometry.

The main fact is the coin has great lines and is naturally toned no matter if envelope or roll toned!

You toned coin collectors are in trouble now that Stuart has starting focusing his skills on toned coins.

And he has moved from the brown toned coins to coins with color.

Nice coin Stuart. Decent strike for a New Orleans Morgan. Strike may have limited the grade here, hard to tell.

    Nice job!
