72-P Type 2 Ike really is a Type 3?!...Fixed!..

Maybe it's just my imagination but auction #8427548752 looks like
a Type 3 to me. I know it says Type 2 on the NNC holder and the seller
is calling (and charging) it as Type 2.......would this be considered fraud?
Talk about taking advantage of newbees!!

Some one please linkify for me....

UPDATE!....Looks like he listened. Says he is disgusted with NNC now and has
now started it at a penny.
Glad we got him turned around before some one got taken!

    Edited to say, Good grief. How can anybody tell with that photo conveniently being dark right in that area?

    I suppose you can always save the photo to your desktop, scan it for bugs and creepies and then send it to you Fax and

    View Finder or editing app and lighten it up. Just a thought. image

    Thats a tough one to call.

    Did you email the seller? If the seller knowingly sells a Type 3 as a Type 2 then yes it would be considered fraud but very difficult to prove since the coin is labeled a Type 2 by a TPG.

    Just another example of buy the coin and not the slab! (Unless your into slab error's or goof ups or whatever's)

    However, I'm amazed at how many dealers/collectors don't know the difference either and this character may just be going by what he reads on a label rather than by what his knowledge base contains.


    On the other hand, the err, benefits him not the buyer. If he's contacted it will be interesting to see what he does.

    No one mentioned the other little problem.

    Even if it was a T2 (it is a T3) it is either AU or VERY low MS.

    It would only be worth about $100-200 if it was a T2.......

    As is I would say the coin is worth about $2

    Ya know, guys and gals, there is a report this item link in place nowadays. If you cannot get a response from the seller try

    using that link. If the general consensus is that it is not authentic and can be proven, I suggest we all start using that link,

    en masse.

    I emailed the seller before I started this thread.....Reply back was:
    "How can you tell?"

    I replied back....."Hi Mark B.
    I am pretty much considered an expert on Ike Dollars, so it is easy for me....but, if you look at the island under Florida, it is raised and clearly not in the "Type 2" position and incussed. It is clearly a Type 3. If you need some great pics to compare it to, go here:

    It should clear things up for you so that you won't unintentionally mislead anyone.

    That link should give him the info he needs to clear things up.
    If he keeps the auction running after that....I'm going to file a complaint, as I
    would then feel he is intentionally misleading potential bidders/buyers.

    I think he was definitely listening Brian as the BIN dropped to $1500 with a start at $1450. I really don't think he will get any takers though given the fact that its a T3 thats a low 65 at best. The T3 is the most common of the high grade 72 IKEs and as a result commands the lower premium of the three. On the plus side, the coin appears to have a good presentation with good toning but no where near a $1500 coin.
