  • NGC must be extremely lax in their grading. I may be wrong but I am absolutely amazed at their seemingly skyhigh ratio of "perfect" coins they dish out on a regular basis. From MY OBSERVATIONS on Ebay, there's literally TONS of NGC 70 coins and extremely few PCGS 70's.

I'm not dissing NGC! I don't want to outrage anyone here! This is just MY observation and it just blows me away
how many "70's" they produce! Maybe they should change their name to "The Perfect Coin Grading Company."
But that would make them PCGC and could get confusing.

NGC MOTTO: "IF IT'S A COIN ~~ IT'S PERFECT!" image

Somehow I just know someone is going to come in here and SLAM ME HARD! image

But, then again...it's just my observation and opinion! I need to get away from the "bay".
Okay! I feel better now. image

MAYBE....I can sue them both for mental stress and trauma!? image
At least I hope everyone gets a good laugh out of this!

No slam , you got it right ; NGC suks pretty bad......take that MS-68* 1949-d Quarter

thats being posted and discussed ....... crack it out and send it to PCGS .

MAYBE it would get a 67 , but in all probability - it would 66

CC2GO: You obviously have little practical experience with NGC moderns. Yes, their grading standards are different and they allow for more on a 70 than PCGS. But you'll find those out there that think PCGS is just unreasonably tight fisted in handing out 70s... I would like to see you try and make a full submission of 20 coins and get all 70s back from NGC... image And they are far from being a service that "hands out 70s"... image

And Supercarcoins: Examples of the same can be found in PCGS plastic too... image No service is perfect, and grading is subjective... NGC's 67 may be PCGS's 66, but there's out there that the coin is a 68 to, and others that would call it a 65... it's an opinion, and neither service is right or wrong...

I did, indeed. Three coin set, (1965-1967), for $33 BIN. The other two were the usual crap.

Yes. I've seen quite a few of the recent 69DCAMS from PCGS and for a lot its perfect and I couldn't possibly see how it did not get 70. They must put some kind of electron microscope on there and bump down to 69 if one atom is off image

  • Per david when I asked the question.

We use a 5x loupe- and 4.85 seconds to grade the coin.

the atomizing nuetron scope is for rarities only.

I think the line also varies with who grades your coin image And PCGS is very picky on very small defects like tiny strike-thrus...

George, if we're speaking about so-called perfect (MS or PR 70) coins, I would hope that PCGS and others WOULD be "very picky on very small DEFECTS like tiny strike-thrus"image Let me guess - you deal in/sell a lot more NGC than PCGS 70's?image

Seriously though... what's the definition of 70? The ideal coin with absolutely no defect at 5x? Or maybe 20x? Or is a 70 a coin that is in the same condition as if it had just been struck? Or somewhere in between?

I'll say this about SGS: At least you can photograph the coin through their plastic.
