A co-worker just inherited his fathers collection of over 100 gold coins. I was heading for a trip out of town and had about an hour to look at what he had. I picked out 8 coins and put a few on hold. I came back and he sold everything with the exception of approximately 40 $5 libs (and my 8 coins). He offered me all the libs for $170 per coin. They are all common dates and range in grade from vf-au with the majority in the xf range. Should I grab them from him or pass. Thanks in advance for your niblets of wisdom.
If it was $170 for the lot I'd have been on vacation by now. He did have a choice $3 1854-o that would have graded 60+ on a bad day that he sold for 2100. I almost started crying. I told him I was heavily interested in that coin and he sold it when I was on the road for work.

I'm going to go out on a limb here, and say he means $170 per coin

Fortunately I agree, he probably meant per coin.
If it is for the lot then do the right thing and offer at least melt for each.
