Nice double date on the "1". I like doubling and cracks.

Might have to sell the full steps so that I can enjoy the VAM's.

I've lost my play money on disability, but not my love of coins.

When I saw the title I said to myself "self, I can't believe Jack doesn't know a VAM number, this must really be unusual"

    Got me.

Question, what makes this coin a VAM? I'm not into Morgan Dollars and really don't know but I'd like to.

wam98, thanks for the reply. I see threads about VAM's here all the time and don't have a clue. Thought I'd ask for a change. I collect the old Commems.

From what I understand, that is THE number one VAM - congrats!

rmoss, technically every single Morgan and Peace dollar has a VAM number. The numbers were assigned to every known die combination in the book written by Leroy Van Allen and George A. Mallis (their initials are where the term VAM comes from). Of course, not every one is sought after.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

HOLY COW! (No offense to Hindus here.) That is one cherry I never would have expected in this day and age. I need to trawl for VAMs on eBay much more often.

Amen to that! It would hard to SUCK any more than on that eBay rip. I am amazed that he was able to get it that low with other bidders. I guess thebaronace either didn't see the VAM or fell asleep at the wheel.

I had an opportunity to purchase VAM 44 at the Baltimore show last fall. Was in an ANACS 62 holder. It is now in a PCGS 62 holder. The price for the ANACS coin before being reholdered was $8000.00. True story...

Tripling on the cotton bolls and leaves northeast of the ear. Tripled to the right. Compare
it to a normal morgan and it should be clear to you.

Considering that a PCGS-61 sold for $10,200 in November last year and a PCGS-62 is probably an easy $15K coin now, it's too bad you didn't find a way to buy that little darling.
    When in doubt, don't.
