Ebay Class Action Suit - Forum Members Lawyers Needed...

Every day I have been reading with complete disgust the termination of solid ebay members... if you have not been reading the boards Laura @ Legend was taken off, just recently Frank Provasek of Frank's Coins seems to have suffered the same fate....
Perhaps on this board lies a few really good legal minds who are Attorneys....
either regular posters or lurkers....
If you are out there....
maybe you would be able to advise us or take the steps needed for a class action suit against ebay?
The ebay cycle of life...

(Just think of city streets clogged with a hundred thousand horses each generating 15 lbs of manure every day...)
What sense does that make????
If you're not doing anything against eBays TOS then why would you feel a need to 'buck the system' ?
<< <i>Don't worry, I suspect there will soon be a bigger and better venue for online coin sales/auctions.
AnaCoindaBay?

Doug, it appears that in some cases, Ebay's "asking for verification" is being done in a way that Ebay itself had indicated it would not do, so people are rightfully concerned/cautious.
Also, such information has apparently been asked of those who were NOT "doing anything against eBays TOS". Ebay, in effect, appears to be changing the rules (in an unprofessional and suspicious manner), in mid stream, even with respect to members who have apparently done nothing wrong. >>
While i can agree with your premise, i find it confusing (and curious) that members would be so up in arms over eBay finally 'Policing" it's venue somewhat. Granted they are doing it in ways that seem to be questionable but, to suggest law suits over it seems rather destructive in my opinion. Marty has proven that eBay is willing to react to the members concern in a positive way to verify it's intent. Simply question, and answers will result in an easy and painless solution.
Those who react negatively to the verification process are just hurting themselves. Verifying that it is in fact eBay who is asking the questions is extremely simple.

i am sensing this also. why not come to an agreement with ebay
on a proper and secure way to deliver important information.
Be it a fax to a trusted ebay number from the website, or a phone
call by you the ebay customer to ebay, or via ebay email system?
but i like ebay. i use my own judgement what is a scam and what is not.

Looking at the prelude on that, it seems like it is geared to scammers who get busted and want back on....
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
The filthy, stinkin' lawyers are the only ones who make money off of those things.
First, I feel your love for those of us who work in the legal field. Secondly, if I believed either of the above statements to be true, I'd be the first in line to sign up for the gig. In actuality, Plaintiffs lawyers who go charging into litigation not knowing what they are getting into, are far more likely to wind up PAYING attorneys fees to EBAY, rather than making off with millions to the detriment of the rank and file EBAY'er. Fortunately, it's not my area, so I can happily step aside.

But with all the phishers and scam artists out there, they should have run this through their internal messaging system.
I mean I don't give out private info over to phone to anyone either.
Much less will I fax private info to a unknown fax number either.
To have someone call you up out of the blue and demand private information. Forget it.
Ebay should have come up with some more suitable for getting some private information, than strangers on a phone someplace.

I hope that doesn't include when he is examing you.
Here lies the problem:
fraudulant ebay auction
I asked the seller early on if he had a clearer picture of this coin, because it looked to me like it was a Barber Half. His reply was this:
you are absolutely right. sorry, the pictures didnt come out clear, Im in process of redoing them sorry.
I also notified ebay. They acknowleged my notification, but the auction is still running.
Yet they will suspend legitimate sellers who will not provide personal information over the phone or via email which they themselves said they would never do? Go figure.

<< <i>maybe we're not getting the full story from those who were naru'd. >>
Exactly!!!!
The difference is you are face to face with the dealer. you never know who might be on the other end of the phone or email. If ebay wants you to prove who you are in a phone call, they should also prove who they are.

<< <i>All E-Bay did was ask for proof of who you are. If you go to a coin dealer (I know of a very large one in WI) and sell $1000 face of scrap silver. They need a pic of your drivers license and your SSN for a 1099. The government is requiring that info, not the state. So what is the difference,

In Marty's example, they did prove who they are. He simply asked them to send the request through eMail so that it showed up in his My Messages section. They did so within minutes.

But all someone has to do is click the "Contact Member" button and send them a message, it will show up in "My Messages". They can ask for all the information and say that they are whoever they want. How do you know it REALLY came from ebay?
What case bring ye before the court ?
Why, we are suing Ebay for greed, your honor. They are guilty of the gravest of all sins against the Republic,
Capitalizing on the Market and exercising their option to Verify ACCOUNTS !
Hmmmmm....
maybe we can just get them to shut down on Sundays after we take GOD off the money
Good idea, case dismissed. Lets go golfing

If it's just another member, the message contains that member's eBay handle.
Russ, NCNE
<< <i>Yes, so I can just create a new handle. Ebayverification is not taken for instance. >>
Anybody who's ever received legitimate eMail from eBay knows that it does not originate from that handle. Also, the message would say "From eBay member <insert handle>". Real eBay messages don't say that.

The new eBay Blackthorne software was developed with seller tracking and security in mind. The software is a smoldering pile of crap that doesn't work but they're pushing it for 'security' concerns.
The ebook mentioned in this thread looks interesting. I hope someone here does a book report on it.

The ebook mentioned in this thread is an EXE file which I will not run. Why publish in EXE rather than PDF? I also got a kick out of the "100% clean certified by equinox labs" seal on it, which is not linked to any other webpage. A google search for Equinox labs doesn't come up with anything either. So, I gotta assume that seal is phony. I wouldn't recommend the eBook mentioned be downloaded by anybody.
