High profile powerseller quits Ebay

I wonder if they had been getting the same kind of phone calls that some people here have been getting?

Third High Profile PowerSeller in 2006 Ceases Listings on eBay

Online auction discussion forums are buzzing about an eBay seller
known as Parrothead88, a popular seller of shipping supplies. John Hannon,
who registered on eBay in 1997, had made eBay history when he became the
first "shooting star" PowerSeller in 1999 when he earned 10,000 feedback
ratings. On Thursday, eBayers were shocked to see that with close to 75,000
unique feedback ratings, Parrothead88 had suddenly emptied his eBay Store
and had no active listings on the eBay website.

In the last month, Parrothead88's trading partners have been leaving
an unusual amount of negative ratings for the seller. Of the 36 negative
ratings received in the last 12 months, 34 were received within the last
month.

There is much speculation about Parrothead88. Some believe Hannon had
sold his business to another company. Others speculate the seller may be
having personal issues in his life. But everyone wants to know, what is
happening with Parrothead88?

Parrothead88 is in fact the third eBay PowerSeller who has suddenly
removed listings from eBay in the past 4 months. GlacierBayDVD closed its
business abruptly in early February, and Sell2All Inc.'s Brandon Dupsky
filed for bankruptcy in March. (Unlike GlacierBay DVD and Sell2All,
Parrothead88 is not NARU and it's unknown if the cessation of sales is
temporary or permanent.)

What dismays eBay sellers is why such high-profile and seemingly
wildly successful sellers have abruptly ceased their eBay operations.

Randy Smythe operated on eBay using the ID GlacierBayDVD and had
become eBay's number one feedback seller in June 2005 selling movie DVDs and
soundtrack CDs. Smythe has never commented publicly on the demise of his
eBay business.

Brandon Dupsky, who operated Sell2All on eBay, has not commented on
his debt, which a Nebraska newspaper said totaled $1.49 million. But his
colleague told the newspaper that Dupsky is committed to starting up another
eBay business (http://digbig.com/4gtwt).

Two companies are associated with the eBay User ID Parrothead88:
Bargains Galore (http://bargainsgalorestore.com), registered to John Hannon,
and Mailers & More LLC (http://www.mailersandmore.com), operated by Michael
and Tracy Kolman. Both are located in the Tampa Bay area of Florida and have
the same phone number and email address listed on the websites. Phone
messages left for Hannon and the Kolmans were not returned.

    Wow!

I just filed a PayPal claim against Parrothead88 earlier this evening after having not gotten my order or response to emails (returned for a full box) and his voice mail is full too.

    All makes sense now.

IMHO, eBay is a very expensive site on which to sell especially when it comes to coins. Maybe some of the smartest sellers are opting out for greener pastures.

ebay can go &#%@* themselves. Until they quit catering to the purveyors of fakes and driving away good sellers, I'll not spend a penny on that site.

Small wonder with the way eBay/Paypal treats sellers.

Despite all the noise, injustice, screwups [by ebay/PP], etc. people who make a living selling whatever via eBay will all be back in one form or another. They will submit to ebay's crazy demands. Even if you don't make a living selling via eBay how do you sell and get a good price for your collectibles? Yahoo auctions? Get real. BST board? Don't think so.

How can they ignore the "best" auction site in the world? How can they ignore the "best" source for visibility? They can't.

Anaconda swore off Paypal a few years ago when they froze his account with thousands on deposit. He quietly went back after a few weeks.

The same will happen here. eBay is too dominate a player to be ignored if you are a seller.

I used to buy bubble mailers from Parrothead88 but haven't done so for about a year now. He was always super friendly and the service was excellent.

Leave eBay? Not a chance. I just finished selling some of my camera equipment. Without eBay I would have been lucky to get half of what I actually realized.

Some catagories, such as coins, may be experiencing problems due to the scammer factor driving bids down. The recent crackdown by eBay, even though it appears clumsy and probably is, tells me that they are now aware that they must start cleaning up their act.

eBay is reaching maturity. They have been moving away from auctions and pushing stores. My guess is that the stores are really not doing as well as expected. They need to reinvigorate their auction business.
    All glory is fleeting.

I would have no problem whatsoever if ebay ended. The darn auction is to full of dishonest sellers that it might benefit society if ebay quit operations.

Just today, (suprisingly on a Sunday), I logged on to eBay and was redirected to a confimation page. It said that I had to confirm my e-mail address which has been the same for
years. I clicked on the confirm button & they sent me an e-mail which contained a confirmation link. The reply was that my e-mail address was either already confirmed or is no
longer in use. What the heck are they trying to accomplish?

Lots of strange happenings around there.

I'm one of those that's done bussiness since 1997 they've imporved it for me as a buyer giving me a 1-800 number for customer service issues. Seems most of you have been complaining about their lack of enforcement and now that they are trying to dig into the problem that's a problem too. It's a hard job and I sure don't know who's good or bad but I can judge who I'd risk my money on and haven't been screwed yet.

I'm down to only a half a dozen or so sellers that I'll puchase from. When I do sell on ebay, I don't use PayPal because of the fees and the notion that yet another entity has my account information. I realize I probably miss out on some buyers, but I'm probably doing better in eBay than at my local dealer for selling stuff...Leo

Greener pastures??? You mean like the 15% juice charged buyers by Heritage, Superior, B&M, et-al?? I think the EBAY commissions are actually quite reasonable, especially for the "little guy/private collector" like me.

Is it a requirement that you have an auction listed in order to be NARUed for non-compliance?

You don't think he could be NARUed anyway?

hold on a sec... if ebay ended , I wouldn't have a playground anymore.

I'd have to go to coin shows image and advertise in publications and all that stuff.

The IRS annouced they would look into the powersellers tax accounting. Just to confirm that everyone always pays the taxes everyone knows they should.

Perhaps the sellers found out that the IRS is serious.
