Name the top four dealers who are revered most...

... I've only been in the "game" for a short while, but have learned A LOT in a short period of time.
There are many great dealers in this hobby, but for me, the top four dealers that I have interacted with to some degree and feel are a "cut above", are (and in no particular order):
Larry Shepherd of Simco, American Numismatic Rarities, Dave Albanese, and Mark Feld (coinguy1). Basically these four come with my highest recommendations
and I'd like to know who you would certainly recommend. It doesn't need to be a dealer you have bought coins from, it can be someone who you have talked to, learned from, and/or just feel confident in their numismatics knowledge.

Excellent robertpr, thanks for the links.
<< <i>You can add Dick Osburn. >>
I've heard a lot of good things about him but frankly his website sucks and I won't buy a coin that has a one or two sentence generic description and no photo.
2)Andy Lustig-R.M. Smythe
3)David McCarthy-Kagin's
4)Mark Ballantyne-Olde Saratoga(my boss)

Understandable. However, if you feel inclined to call, you will find him most personable and willing to discuss and describe the coins and send them to you on approval. Alternatively, visit him at a show. He attends many of those.
A number of dealers are specialists and should
be included in different catagories. There are certainly
more then 4 top notch dealers mentioned frequently on these Forums.

Both are greats in this business who are still in the thick of it and who *really* know a wannabe when one walks in the door.

I've never bought a coin from them, but I have been very impressed by the folks at the Gold Rush Gallery. Carl Lester and Dr. David Patton were generous with their time and considerable knowledge at the SF ANA.

1) Mark Feld
2) Todd Imhof
There are a few others that I have dealt with and been very satisfied, but they have not yet attained "revered" status as I haven't done enough business with them:
1) Paul at RCNH
2) George at Legend
3) Brian Wagner

That's an entirely different thread. In fact, that topic has been beaten to death a number of times, has it not?

I don't know about "revered".
Dick Osborne for seated and bust material (yes, his website "sucks" and has no pics) but in all the years I have dealt with him I have NEVER been disappointed by a coin he recommended to me.
Stack's--again, lousy website and pics but great coins

I have NEVER had a disappointing transaction with a forum member. There are too many individuals to list, but when possible, I try to transact with a forum member first, buy or sell.

No, it has not. ...and I sort of think that calling a dealer revered, and having high recommenations for him/her, can somewhat be construed as similar.

I never dealt with Mark Feld but I would certainly believe he'd be up there. Great eye and integrity. Mike Printz is another one, also never bought anything from. He really puts his clients first. And he does take a fair picture of coins.

Awe, deference, and devotion is not the same as "recommended or favorite" dealer. If all the people posting here are, in fact, saying that they are (for example) in awe of and devoted to Julian (or Dick Osburn, JJ Teaparty, or fill in another dealer), then I am wrong and we have some unwavering disciples of Mr. Leidman (or Dick Osburn, JJ Teaparty, or fill in another dealer). I'd imagine if a dealer were truly revered (the way Longacre reveres QDB?) then the collector would never go to another dealer or even look at another dealer's inventory...sort of like a religious thing. Some may think this is just a matter of semantics, but reverence is not the same thing as preference. The OP asked about reverance. If we are just talking favorites, then a short search reveals that indeed, that thread has been beaten to death in just the past five months:

A while ago, I read your response to someone who attempted to poke fun at the "Brahin Collection" label on a PCGS slab. Noting that person's icon, your response was something like "who puts a gay face on a dog?" -- my wife and I laughed loud and hard at that.
I haven't bought any coins from him personaly, only albums.
But I have never heard anything bad, or had any problem with an order.

A thread which helps collectors learn who the best, or at least most recommended dealers are should never be considered "beaten to death".
There is no better way for a new or even seasoned collector to learn who the more revered (for lack of a better term
