I've asked this before, but I'll ask again, in a slightly different way

We have a lot of coin collectors on here, and I'm certain that they all have coins, in all types and conditions.
We also have quite a few picture-post threads, which I really like. But, it's always from the same people (which I appreciate).
There are people who have never or almost never posted their coins to share with the forum, for whatever reasons. But I sure wish that more people would start sharing their coins, well at least pics of their coins, with the rest of us. So, get moving, people, the next time a picture thread is started.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
But Lucy says that the whitebalance and lighting still owns me
Seriously though (well, that is serious), it takes a few things to do the pics with....
* Camera with Macro (or scanner, but people always get picked on when using a scanner)
* Knowing how to use macro on your camera
* A way to hold the camera steady (tripod or something)
* A place to take pics
* Good lighting (I still don't have great lighting)
* Non-generic coins (try posting a MS63-MS65 class of late issue Kennedy/Roosevelt/etc...or even a white, common date, MS63 morgan)
* Editing software (not to juice the image, but to manage it and cut it down, etc, so the size isn't bad)
* Preferably, a server to store the pics for viewing...other than CU's servers since the size is a limiting factor. (this particular one stopped me from doing much with pictures until about 2-3 months ago when I took someone's advice for a free internet picture hosting service).
* People to not be such smartasses in threads with pictures.....no one likes to post pictures and get reamed for it or told their coin sucks. Sure, in a "what do you think about XXXX" thread, it is ok (imho) to say "there is rub, there is a scratch, it's been cleaned", etc. But, too many people like belittling others.
Sorry if my recent rash of picture posting is bothering you ER
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
Plus, I don't give a hoot if people don't like my photo skills or lack thereof. The half dime people out there seem to appreciate the coins. A fellow bust coin collector told me about photobucket and it has served me well (except for the ISP at work having some sort of photobucket blocker on it).
Ain't she a beaut?

<< <i>shiroh, is that the famous photo you used on ebay way back when?
Yes, I claimed the 1926-S cent came from Haroldine's estate and would probably be graded MS66 RD from PCGS. Can't you tell by the photo?
I finally have an OK camera that can take decent shots, but I still rely on natural light. That gives me a fairly small window of time during which I can shoot photos.

<< <i>I'm sorry, I will start posting pics as soon as I get this camera thing figured out. >>
There's your answer right there!
Not everybody has the inclination to go through the necessary hoops to post a photo. Most of us do not particularly care for that feeling of incompetence that follows when we try to post a photo, it looks good to us when we view it, and all that shows up on the boards is a "red X"! Then somebody says the thread is pointing to a photo on your C: drive! We sit there scratching our heads trying to make sense out of it but that just doesn't happen. Finally, somebody very helpful like Russ will come along, give a concise explanation and then we're able to post the photo, but it still doesn't make any sense.................
Compbine all this with, lack of adequate camera, lack of tripod or copy stand, lack of adequate lighting, lack of adequate software, lack of high speed internet connection and you will probably have your answer. JMO
The name is LEE!
Shiro - is that toungue-and-groove hardwood or laminate? It looks great!
<< <i>Ok, you inspired me. Latest upgrades to my type set. Not Russ quality, but here goes anyway:

Actually, that image is better than I could do. I can't image album pages of coins worth a crap.

This may intimidate others from posting. I see folks all the time giving an apology for their less than stellar images. It shouldn't be this way, but it certainly is IMO. This is a hobby folks, and for those of us that choose photography to not be our hobby, we shouldn't feel ashamed to post a less than professional image. Nice images are well, nice, but if one can't produce "nice" many folks viewing that have experience looking at coins in person should be able to get a good feel of what it looks like in person.
When I joined this board, most images were scans. I agree progress and technology is a great thing. We also did just fine and there were no/or not many elitist comments on images in those days.
Plus, some folks just don't care to broadcast to the world what they have. I rarely post coins anymore, for the simple reason EVERYBODY is always shooting me a PM wanting me to "scan" their coins for them. I just can't keep up with it all. I have to also charge them for a cab ride to the PO, and a snack of some sort as well.
1) Still haven't figured out the macro setting on my digital camera along with lighting
2) Stupid Forum limits of 50K to images!!!!
Thanks Russ...and I can't seem to get a decent pic of my slabbed coins.
I'll post something in the next pic thread.
<< <i>Two big reasons for my "non-posts"

2) Stupid Forum limits of 50K to images!!!!
Yep....that kept me from it for awhile too.....that's why I posted the list I did in this thread....everything I posted kept me from imaging for 2+ years.

<< <i>what stops me from posting pictures is the fact that I collect what most of you would consider widgets, and I don't want the grief. >>
I also collect widgets. Even worse, I collect moderns! Doesn't stop me from posting them, though.

I stand corrected.
However, I believe that in your case, your "widget collector" status is outweighed by the sheer quality of your photographic work. Even so, given how rough this crew is here, I imagine a few of them are snickering behind your back.

That being said, I'm going to start sharing my real "monster" toners soon.

Sure it takes a while, but its not really as hard as it seems. There is a thread around here somewhere that shows
step-by-step how to do it.I'd post a link, but I haven't figured out how to do that yet.
Fine-pix camera that came with easy to use editing software.Trial and error got me to where I am today.
Thats not saying much,so here goes.

As long as they're here, anyone care to offer your judgment on their grades? (I didn't shoot the reverses, which are the same quality and coloration as the obverses.)
Thanks!
