This is the kind of crap that a viable eBay replacement would not allow -- numispuffery that asserts bogus values. Does he have any of last week's lottery tickets for sale? Probably a better chance at winning with one of those.

Auctions like this go beyond puffery in to lying. These sets weren't shipped sealed from the mint.

Already sent him a note saying they were never sealed.

With his math the entire coin market would be worth more than the US economy.

    Dear smoult26,

Upon reviewing your auction "1965,68,69,70,71 *5* sealed mint sets $2,839,000 possbl" we have found it necessary to terminate the auction for the following violations:

    - Full of crap.

We have refunded your listing fees in full for this auction. Be aware that continued violations can result in the following actions:

    - Forteiture of listing fees
    - Bestowment of "Power Seller" status
    - Suspension of account
    - Further warnings
    - Investigation fee assessments
    - Personal property liens

We have assigned an auction rat to your account, at no charge to you for the first 30 days, to make sure your auctions comply with eBay listing rules, which you can find somewhere on our website.

As always, remember that we aim to keep eBay a safe and enjoyable marketplace for all, insofar as we see fit. Whereas you have no viable alternative, we look forward to welcoming your fees...er...auctions for the forseeable future.

    Sincerely,

I have a bag of "UNSEARCHED" lottery tickets for sale. One of them could be worth in excess of $40,000,000 with the correct numbers.
Anyone interested? I'll start the bidding at a modest $299 and a BIN of $39,000,000! L@@K!!!!
Even at the BIN price, IF there is a $40,000,000 ticket inside, you'll still profit!

I have some mint sets, and the envelopes are all open(AKA-never sealed). I seem to remember that they came that way. I didn't steam them, and I know I got some from the mint direct, so why should I assume these guys didn't seal them up themselves? Even if they were sealed from the mint, a little steam gets them open, and a little paste gets them sealed again.

i guess it isnt common knowledge yet that our mint sets are not sealed, unless the buyer seals them...
fishing for the unsuspecting potential buyers.......no law against it but, it is unethical...like so many other
    money making scenarios.

Here is his reply to my statement that the mint never sealed mint set envelopes.

<< <i>Well sorry for the error, this is the exact advetisement from the people I bought them from. They are sealed now, and when that took place and who sealed them I do not know unfortunatley. Thanks for the info. >>

Guess he was suckered, so it's ok for him to continue with the scam.

While most of the purveyors of all this bogus sealed set crap are slimeballs, there are actually some who did get suckered themselves and do believe they are selling legitimate sealed sets. This whole sealed set thing is one of the biggest scams on eBay. It's gotten to the point now where the majority of the proof sets listed for the late 50's to early 60's are "sealed", and this picked over repacked crap is bringing completely stupid money.

Well, at least the envelope pictured in his auction is an obvious modern reprint. image

Yeah I was wondering if someone would notice that image The pre-64 ones are somewhat more "authentic".

This tool sells empty US Mint packaging as well.
