It doesn't get much earlier than that!

    Grade?

My guess would also be MS66 but I'll say RB.

    Really nice RussView™ pic.

Great Shot Russimage I'm guessing MS64 RB. I own two of these:

MS66RED, though I would pass on it due to the weak VDB.

It's not weak, it's truncated by the strike doubling.

I would grade it MS 66 RD, although I have a great deal of difficulty judging luster from your photos, Russ.

Since everyone else has shown their examples, here is mine:

As an aside, I've always wondered why Victor didn't do a better job of centering his initials -- they are a bit too far left.

Its not weak, its truncated by the strike doubling.

Russ - Do you think everyone is a MORON ?
Your coin has a WEAK VDB.Plain and simple its only half there. When you talk about Lincoln cents and I'm reading what you spouting,I'm gonna come at you.Admit it,you don't have to B.S. everyone.

ps Where did you come up with truncation on the coin ? Where is the strike doubling ?

Wow Mike that is one great looking coin.

OK...looking at Russ's photos there does seem to some doubling of the lower rim, which does look (to my untrained eye) like strike doubling. And since it does look like it has truncated the VDB. Am I missing something or is this the case? Does this happen often? Not trying to pick sides, just learn something.

    Thanks!

Nice pic. I would guess MS65RB.

Here is the one that I am sending off to PCGS soon to see what they say. Thanks for the help and great pic Lucy!!! image She took a way better picture than I could through that crappy third party TPG slab!

Also, LeeG... that second 1909 VDB of yours has a KILLER reverse strike!! That isn't a matte proof is it? The E. PLURIBUS UNUM looks 3D!

  • There does seem to be something going-on with the strike; any doubling would make the weak VDB not so bad...

Hard to assign grade, but consensus PCGS MS65 RB (grade range from PCGS MS64 RB due to the chatter on the OBV, mushy VDB, "something" going-on along edge - to PCGS MS 66 RB due to excellent fields & nice general look).

I would really like to see this one in-hand, the OBV legend almost makes it look like it has seen some sort of contact. Hard to tell what the coloring looks like, possibly dipped, would like to see mint luster in hand.

Pic aren't everything... here is a pic of my PCGS MS65 RD:

All in all, a nice coin.
