My Scott Travers Impersonation...

OK...so I'm definitely "middle-class" and can't afford to knowingly spend a 1909 S VDB on a pretzel, but I was inspired by this act and by the new posters who were trying to get their little ones started in a Jefferson Nickel collection. To facilitate their efforts, I went to the bank the other day and dumped my change into their coin counter to get dollars back. In my change I included a bunch of early Jefferson Nickels... 1938's; '39's; 40's; and a couple of wartime pieces. These were all circulated and not worth much more than face value, but I'm hoping to put a smile on the face of some little kid that will find a 65+ year old coin in circulation.

All the Best

Great idea Leo. For all of the new collectors out there, I"m thanking you for your generousity. I'm going to have to dig up some old ones myself and set them free.
ps - Good impression but you don't sound anything like him!

I have seen this type of thing a few times. Here is an article of a dealer who let one slip, but left it out there with a buy back offer.

Cool! I've done the same occasionally with cull Liberty nickels and Indian head cents, hoping they
will inspire a young collector somewhere!

I like to use common wheaties, acid treated Buffalos and circulated silver certificates for change when dealing with a YN. Wonder how many stay with the kids and how many are passed along to some degenerate who tries to get money for it from a dealer to buy some smokes.
