Large Cents - What do you think the Grades are?

These coins are graded by NGC and I am thinking of sending them into PCGS for crossover. Am I wasting my time and money?

Personally, I don't think they are worth crossing. However, the real question is why you are wanting to cross them over.

    I'd say the 1810 is VF-20 and the 1846 is AU-50

Sorry bit neither will cross. The 1810 is slightly porus and PCGS bags for that, the other has some light corrsion at 9 oclock PCGS bags for that as well.

    My Opinion.

The court jester does not play, but gently pulls the strings…

first the 1810 is almost always porus even mint state examples often are, I would say its a solid xf45 mayby AU in hand, these coins are almost always bad strikes and poor planchets.

the second coin In my opinion is around au50-55.

Why cross these, if your thinking of selling them include great pictures and good description and the close price will be about the same with either holder in this case.

VF30 porous on the 1810, AU55 on the 1855, XF45 on the 1846. Real big copper collectors cross their coins into paper envelopes. image

Both look nice. I'd crack them out and put in an album. If you want to sell eventually, they'll do well Raw.

My reason for crossing is that virtually all of my Large Cents are PCGS and only a handful are NGC and ANACS. Problem is my history of crossing is not good with NGC Large Cents.

My guesses- NGC graded them VF-35 on the 1810, MS-62 BN on the 1855, and AU-58 on the 1846. I grade them VF net F-15, AU-55, and EF-45+, respectively. PCGS will not cross the 1810 but they will slab the other two (probably at a lower grade, unless these are in older NGC holders). All are relatively nice coins.

    they'll do well Raw.

Post a raw Braided Hair cent on ebay, and you'll be lucky to get half of your money out of it. There is just not much competition for the later dates because they are just plain common.

    Re: Rhedden

You are almost spot on with your grades and comments which is why I am not going to waste people's time guessing the grades.

NGC graded the coins as follows:

    1810 -- VF35
    1855 -- MS62
    1846 -- MS62

The first two are "new" NGC slabs while the 1846 is an older slab.

I agree that the 1810 will never cross with PCGS; heck, it won't even get slabbed.

The 1855 Slant will probably get AU55-58 but not MS and the 1846 is up for grabs.

Bottom line is that I am going to pass on sending them in since slim or none are my chances.

    Thanks for the comments.

    Bill
