Misattributed 1803 cent & shill bidding on ebay

Take a look at this auction. This is a common "small 3, small fraction" cent in an ANACS holder, misattributed by the seller as a very rare "large 3, small fraction". That is a $30 corroded common date, being plugged as a very rare variety, and it has been shilled through the roof, too. I don't think there is any point in emailing the seller because I'm sure he/she knows exactly what they are doing. I did report it to ebay, though. Think they will pull it?

Oh, you know... My wife wouldn't let me play with it any more
I'm kinder and gentler, now. Looked for a Teddy bear, but had to settle for this.

Quite possibly. I think we can just email the winning bidder, and send them a link to this thread. If 3-4 of us send an email, I doubt that payment will be sent. A similar favor was once done for me on a scam auction- 3 or 4 people who knew the scammer emailed & saved me from donating $760 to the scammer's cause after I won an auction for a 1796 large cent he didn't own. However, be careful not to inform the winning bidder if they appear to be a shill, as that will only tip them off and make things worse.

<< <i>ANACS did attribute the variety. The problem is there are two sub-varieties of the small fraction large cents, small 3 and large 3-- one common (the one in the auction, a "small 3") and the other much rarer (a "large 3"). Hope this helps...Mike >>
Mike...I was looking for Sheldon variety. I thought ANACS did that. my mistake... I'm somewhat of a copper collector and Large Cents are something of a "guilty pleasure" ;-) Leo

<< <i>After some research the current high bidder, "digdesignz", does not appear to be a shill bidder. >>
Can someone please school me here... I thought the purpose of a "shill bidder" was to artificially inflate the price of something or generate interest in something by driving up the number of bids.
Also, why would a seller have a reverse on something he's using shill bidders for?
Thanks,
Leo
