What?
First off, we can never say, Professional Coin Grading Service?
Secondly, when it is abbreviated where are the periods? I read, PCGS all the time but it should be written, P.C.G.S..

Not according to PCGS. Check through the website, and try to find a single instance of a perioded PCGS. As an aside, I hate eBay sellers who write P.C.G.S. in the auction descriptions -- that's four characters wasted that could be used for something relevant.
Oh, and this is my first post.

The guy at my local shop just calls them "P" or "N" for PCGS and NGC
(oops - I mean P.C.G.S. and N.G.C.)
I've heard it pronounced "PeeGis"

It's all a matter of style. The New York Times would insert the periods, the Associated Press would leave them out. PGA Tour, ASPCA, USA and so on are more commonly used without the periods. It is cumbersome, pedantic and serves no real purpose. The caps do the job just fine.

Technically, PCGS is an initialism, not an acronym. An acronym is when you take the initials and create a new word (e.g., sonar, radar, laser, etc.).
