    Well....it's an original coin that's been cleaned, like most of those old ones are. The TPG's don't always note if they've been cleaned or not. IMHO, cleaning isn't necessarily a bad thing. All depends on how it was cleaned, and what it now looks like.image

    Well, the only valid way I can see is if it was released by the U.S. Mint after being cleaned by them!

    Were't there some Sacagawea's that had some "special treatment" that basically equated to cleaning?

    (I know....I probably spelled Sacxxx wrong.....too lazy to check). image

    Just my thoughts;

    Tonning is like aging,if your 5 years old and are very toned,you've had a hard a hard life. If your 100 years old and lightly toned,you didn't do bad. If you are 200 years and not toned at all,you are very clean(ed).image

    Sorry,just thinking.

    Cleaning is another of those numismatic terms that has never been clearly defined. Perhaps this is a coin that has never been dipped and has its original toning, but has had surface dirt removed with something like Goo-Gone.

    The seller needs to provide more information on just what "cleaned" means. From the photos, the coin looks nice.
    All glory is fleeting.

    Actually, it's the grading company that needs to define cleaned. The seller provided their opinion of the coin as a MS-62+.
  • Maybe it was "Curated" and not cleaned. That word worked for all the coins off that sunken ship. Can't remember the name of it now, the SS something or other.

    The hardwood floors in my house are original, and they've been scrubbed, waxed an polished a thousand times.

    Also note that this is a SOLID coin and not one of those hollow ones. Wonder what the + after the MS62 means?
    Think this is one of them there originally cleaned coins and not one of the later cleaned ones whatever that may mean.

    I thought of the same thing. How can a NT coin be called original either? image

    Quite an oxymoron. But as far as Seated dollars goes, this one looks closer to original than most. I think 98% of them have been cleaned and/or dipped to hell and back. I made the mistake of passing on a very nice AU-58 seated dollar offered by RCNH a few months ago which would have been great in my type set. Even if I have to eat ramen noodles for three months, I won't make that mistake again.
