And to think a few short months ago I was unwilling to pay $250 for a PCGS MS69. Sorry this may have the lowest mintage of the series but considering what the rest of this low mintage series is bringing it's just stupid IMO.
One of the things that I'm amazed at is she had to answer several questions in this auction and turned down cash deals. Seems the crazies have started to enter, I'm glad I have what I want other than that year. Guess I maybe waiting or never have that one year for the price just like the 1999 silver proof set to complete my series.
No one bought these coins just for bullion-- the tenth oz costs $210.00 from the mint alone! If you want bullion, get an unc version. If you want a low mintage, incredibly beautiful one year type, you're going to have to pay for it.

That Proof Silver Eagle is as much a bullion issue as the Proof Platinum Eagles. On top of that the mintage is much higher. >>
True that! If you love the look of the proof silver eagle and want one as an example, you can get one from the mint for $30. If you love the look of the 2004 proof platinum eagle, you're going to have to get a 2004 proof platinum coin. (Though I strongly suspect that reproductions will eventually come to market)

People are buying into a 10th ounce of platinum that they think is rare. They arent't buying platinum, they are buying a rare coin.
