500th Post Giveaway, post a good book WINNERS ARE IN

I would like to thank everyone on the forum. I've been helped, gotten some laughs and met
many wonderful people associated with the hobby. Even won one of these giveaways once.

My first plea for help here was with ike dollars and completing an eisenhower set,
So I'll be giving away:

1990 uncirculated Eisenhower commemorative still in the mint packaging.
and a Barber half whitman deluxe album 1907-1915 with at least one original vg/f half in there.

I'll let the winner decide which one is first prize. Here's how to win: Everyone welcome

Post a reply and let me know the last descent book you've read, doesn't matter if it was fiction or non-fiction.
last good book i read was hemingway, the sun also rises.

This is totally random and you do not have to post a book to be entered, but is appreciated as i am gleaning once
again, info from the forum. Post as often as you like, but only one entry will go in the hat.

On Wed march 1st at sundown, I'll have my oldest draw a random name out of the hat, that will be first place.
Then my youngest will draw another and that will be second place.

Best wishes

Ok, WINNERS ARE IN: First let me thank everybody for responding. This gives me many good years of reading. To make this a little exiting for me, I will read the books recommended by both winners.
There are many more books here that I will be checking out in the months to come. HAVING SAID THAT :

1st place: 100PROOF1957
2nd place: JAYBOXX

    hemingway, the sun also rises.

I just read that this past week...Not one of my favorites by not bad at all.

Metamorphisis by Kafka is pretty interesting. I wouldnt call it a book seeing as its only about 40 pages, but its a fun night read, filled with symbolism.

The last I read and enjoyed was Dante's Inferno

The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis

I missed getting into this when I was a kid. Knowing the movie was coming out I thought it might be nice to take a look at the story line. I was surprised to find the writing and plots both interesting and entertaining. YMMV but I had a good time exploring Narnia.

    Nice give away! Thanks image

"The Teammates" by David Halberstam. It tells the story of Dom DiMaggio's and Johnny Pesky's 1300 mile trip by car to visit Ted Williams in October 2001. Great for all baseball fans, just not Red Sox fans. Talks about friendship and loyalty as much as it does about baseball. Thanks for the opportunity.
  • D-Day June 6, 1944: The Climatic Battle of World War II. By Stephen E. Ambrose. It was an audio book read by the author....Does that count? I like to listen to audio books while driving. It was a good "read" image

  • "1776" by Pulitzer prize winning author David McCullough. It gives an interesting perspective of this year of change. Some things seem sugar coated, but some interesting insights into George Washington. I am a bit stunned at Washington's low level of competence, his inability to think strategically, his inability to make firm decision. Washington was despondant at times almost sure of failure. He outfitted himself in the finest clothes while many of his men had no uniforms at all and no shoes. That said, Washington kept working, no matter how bad his mood, and by the end of the year, managed some victories to hold his fragile army together. Most of the men were set to walk January 1, and without a morale boost and some action, many of them would have.

  • "Team Of Rivals"
The Political Genius Of Abraham Lincoln
    by Doris Kearns Goodwin

a fascinating insight into one of our most complex and troubled Presidents... the current and future adminstrations could learn a thing or two.... You'll learn more in this book than all the history courses you took in college. A thorough and captivating read. I'm not a fan of most of the Authors writings and positions, but she really hit the ball out of the park on this one. I gave away 5 copies of this book at Christmas...everyone loved it.

  • A very diverse group of readers on the boards I see. I just finished several of the books that follow the Forgotten Realms story line of Drizzt Do'Urden. Icewind Dale Trilogy and The Legacy of the Drow. I'd recommend them for the hard core fantasy reader.

I'm 3/4 into "Deception Point" by Dan Brown. An action-suspense story about NASA and politics. Dan Brown's books are a bit of the same formula but they are fun and fast reads.

Next is some non-fiction. I got "100 Greatest American Currency Notes" by QDB and David Sundman. Link. I like the history and artwork of currency even though I don't collect it (other than a few items). I had been looking for a nice full color book for a while and finally one came out. It's new.
