I sent the seller a brief, nice message saying that the coin looked like an altered 1898-S. He relied this morning that he sent photos to a coin dealer, that is was counterfeit, and that he pulled the auction. He also said that he bought the set years ago, for lots of money, and that he was sorry. I guess took a beating.

Not a bad Ebay seller, by the sounds of it - just misinformed.
