1957 proof sets with different envelopes

Did the Mint have 2 different envelopes in 1957? One opens from the side and the other opens in the typical way. I have seen both types before and wondered if one was used earlier in the year and the other later in the year.

  • The mint did use both types but I don't know when the different types were used.

I have seen three types so far, the top loading one came in 2 colors and the side open one.
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

  • Also on the bottom left of the tan ones some said 1957 P.C. and some just said P.C.
  • No I'm NOT going to do research on the different proof set boxes and envelopes! image

It would be a massive undertaking since there are some oddballs as well. Most
of the packaging had huge runs so even scarcer types can be found. But apparently
the number of sets and amount of packaging didn't always work out even so they
had some very small runs. There can even be some variation in the coins themselves
but this is usually pretty subtle.

I have one or two with the corrugated liners.
