Any recommendations on Smythe coins ?

I never purchased a coin from them before but I came across their on-line inventory and it would appear that most of the coins they handle are original and un-messed with it. Can anyone who is more familiar with them please provide feedback. PM or reply to the post would be most appreciated. Needless to say if my initial impression is correct, it would be a place of interest for me. I did order a coin, so I guess will find out soon enough. But still would appreciate other opinions.

I have bought much currency and stock certificates from them over the years and have been satisfied.
Never bought a coin from them so I can't give an opinion in that area.

I agree re the comments about mreureka. I met him at the NY show and he was really nice. He also has a fine reputation. Because you are in CT, why don't you go down to the City and see the coins in person? I am sure he would be amenable to that.

Add me as another vote... I've bought a few things from Smythe at shows, but usually I just comment on how everything is out of my league

They're all really good guys, and I'm glad to know them.

Andy Lustig (Mr. Eureka) gets a 5 star rating from me out of a possible 5 stars. He also happens to be one of the most knowledgeable professional numismatists since he knows patterns, type coins, gold, colonials, world coins and mint errors.

you cant lose when only dealing with andy at smythe he will give you the straight scoop and will correctly advice you on the coins he sells and treats you good if you got some coins that they specialize in

good coins and if you do not like it no problem returns

again you cant lose

The first and so far only time I dealt with Smythe (but it won't be the last) Andy crossed an ocean (literally!) to find me a 1570 Scottish coin that I was thrilled to add to my collection. I will be doing business with him again!

One of the on line dealers has an extensive list with everything I want listed as sold. What's that for. Some of the other on line dealers have such complicated web sites and at my age can't figure them out. I've got to try this one. Thanks.

I just went to the smythecoins web site. I just have looked at something wrong. For US coins there was only 1 Lincoln, 2 Indian cents, 0 dimes. This may be a good site but really limited as to inventory. Or did I look up the wrong one?

People have asked for a list of coin dealers many times over the years I've been here. There has been numerous dealers listed. I've tried almost all of them at one time or another. I'm sure there are a lot more that haven't been listed here yet. For instance at a coin show recently there were calendars from Numismatic News and it was loaded with coin dealers names and information. Just can't really find one that has good deals and a large assortment to pick from and when I do there is usually something wrong. For instance VT coins has a web site but every time I go there it is full of coins that say sold. I don't care what is sold, only what is available. Recently tried Millersmint. That one is really loaded with a lot of great coins for decent prices. But after an hour or more of playing around with that web site I gave up. Just could not figure out how to buy stuff there. I used to have a list of about 30 or more on line dealers that has drindled away and only a few left to try.

That's us. It's true that our online inventory is very limited. However, you will find a fair number of exceptional things if you poke around.

Go visit them... I have... and the folks at Symthe know what they are doing. MrEureka may be the finest, well-rounded numismatist that I know. And let me just say this and make it abundantly clear... I don't say this about anyone... seriously.
