Accepted Color on Early Coppers
Trinketts thread got me thinking (or worrying). I have a few Early coppers in NGC holders with color. What are excepted colors for early coppers? At shows, I have seen a good number in PCGS slabs with vibrant blues, magentas, greens, that look more questionable than Trinketts half cent. I have one thats a decent green, but sometimes I worry that if attempted to cross today, they would get a dooming BB...

Your coin is just fine where it is. Coppers are well respected in NGC holders.
The color looks fine to me (not being able to see it 'in hand'). If you're looking to sell the piece at a show, the early copper guys are going to grade the piece themselves using EAC standards and their own expertise. (did I spell that right?). Don't sweat the grade on this coin. It looks choice, and it will bring the right money.
Seems like a lot of the color has to do with surfaces. Early copper with hard, reflective, proof or proof-like surfaces seems more likely to tone in the colors of magenta, purplish, aqua-blue/greens, and "pea-rhymes-with-clock" blues. See if you can find some images of proof cents of maybe some proof-like conder tokens, and chances are you'll see some of these colors. If an early copper had these colors and did not have proof/proof-like surfaces, I would be a bit more weary. Doesn't mean it couldn't be natural. I really don't collect these high grades, but believe these observations are pretty much on. Maybe someone else can chime in...
*shudder*
Thanks for the help all.
