I'm changing direction....

ms70ms70 Posts: 13,957 ✭✭✭✭✭

In many posts here I've repeatedly mentioned how much I desire to own a 1792 Half Disme. Well I've come to the decision that having that coin is more important to me than
my current goal of what I call an "across the board type set." (Which is each type of coin with an example from each mint it was produced at). I'm going to hold onto a few of
the coins I currently have that bring me the most joy & start to sell off the rest. The only way I'll ever achieve this expensive dream is to stop buying coins that can be aquired
some other day and start saving up for the moment a half disme becomes available in the best grade I can afford. I'm thinking maybe a G08 to G10 that despite the wear still "has it all."

It's without a doubt a matter of passion.

So to motivate me, post one if you are the lucky curator of one! image

Excellent goal to have. If I were to have only one coin in the world it would be that coin, no contest. Good luck with your venture and I can't wait to see the post saying you got it image

I believe there was an MS64 example on eBay recently. Starting bid was $485,000 if memory serves.

Just be careful, usually the wanting is better than the having.

Here it is! A bit out of my price range though, even if I saved for the rest of my life! image

Why dosn't PCGS consider it a pattern. I was expecting a bit more info on that slab.

    Edit for syntax.

I think about doing the same thing to get a Pan Pac octagonal! Sell everything I own, coinwise, and save up for 7 years until I can afford one.

    Go for it, ms70!

In this hobby, we all change direction from time to time (maybe just to a lesser extent image )

I love it when a plan comes together!

Oh, and I don't have one to post a picture of.

Definitely easier said than done. Just wait until you get some real money in your pocket. Not blowing it on "coins that can be aquired some other day" will be a true test of will-power.

My advice to you would be to stop looking at other coins so you won't be tempted. Look for/at nothing but 1792 Half Dismes (since there are so many image) and you'll win the race.

    Best of luck.
