I need help determining a price for an 1846 dime

It's a PCGS25.

The PCGS price guide list Fine at 144 and EF at 1000. If you split that a VF20 would be 428. And then split for 25 and 30 and 35. Each one of those would be a 190 jump.

Making a VF25 428 + 190 = 618

What does anybody think?????????

Thanks Jon

The CDN lists VF @ 280 theorhetically making a VF-25 retailing about 375-400. The Reiver coin was listed a s VG, damaged and realized 253. The price that you listed may actually be a fair retail price. It is a very scarce coin.

I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.

  • Heritage lists wholesale value at $408 for VF25.
I didn't see any sales recently with an 1846 in VF25, but the last sale for VF30 brought $609.50 (fees included). That was in an ANACS slab.

Thanks guys, you have been a big help. Based on the numbers here I think I will offer 575 and go as high as 625 (maybe).

Don't know the specific coin you're talking about, but don't expect an 1846 dime with high eye appeal for the grade to go for what the "trends" say they should.
