PR Ploy? Damage control? Guess who requested a table at the Nebraska State Coin Show in March?

Bill Horton Jr. of the ANA. I heard that he wanted to set up a table to answer questions and concerns about the ANA.

On one hand, I appreciate the effort. It's nice to think that smaller shows like state shows, etc. are finally getting some attention. (Not everyone goes to the BIG shows in BIG cities) An interest in smaller venues and the "average Joe" collector is a step in the right direction.

On the other hand, I wonder if this effort would be made IF there weren't some major problems still perculating at the ANA. And I wonder if the interest really is in the smaller venues and the "averageJoe" collector or is the interest more in damage control, PR and getting re-elected?

Or, a combination of the two?

Who knows but nevertheless, I appreciate the effort (no matter the motivation) and think it will be interesting meeting him and hearing what he has to say.

Im just a newbie, what problems are there with/within the ANA ? I dont want to start a rampant rumor thread, but before I get involved with them (joining to get a couple bucks off a seminar that's coming to NJ in a couple months) Im curious.

FYI, the President of the ANA cannot be re-elected to that office and may only serve a total of ten years on the board, I believe.

Why does the ANA's participation at a coin show have to have an air of surreptitiousness?

I think that going to shows and informing the pulic is in the ANA charter.

True, but being in the charter and actually practicing it are two totally different things.

Maybe it's me but are you dancing around a bit . Can you please come right out and tell the thread what's wrong with the ANA, or what they did ? (even if it's in your opinion ? ) I dont have any knowledge of something going on, you're inferring there might be. Thanks in advance !

Here's a couple of links to previous threads.

    Thread 1

    Thread 2

You can draw your own conclusions.

edit to add: I'm not rumor mongoring or dancing just found the table request and it's timing interesting.

thanks for the references ! I dont see alot in those thread except for speculation. as for attending a Nebraska local coin show as an important step in an urgent PR campaign (sp), doesn't seem likely. seems like a response would have been fast, public, and national if there was something to communicate.

    much ado about nothing, IMUO.

No one said anyting about it being "urgent" or "important". That's the whole point. Our club has been in existence for over 50 years and even the old timers can't remember a request from the ANA for a table previously. No one's complaining, I just find the timing interesting.
