    The serial number on that Mantle starts with a zero, but it has the newer font on the label and the square white box as opposed to the rounded corners of the earlier graded cards. Does this happen when a card is reholdered? Not bashing the auction, just curious how that works.

    Bob;

    You are correct. The card has been reholdered.

    A possible bump from a 8? If so, it probably deserved it.

    No - from the old-style holder, reholdered into the new style holder.
    I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
  • You would think based on the value of the card they would give you a larger, clearer scan. Unbelievable.

    The last SGC 96 sold in a Lelands auction for around $37,000 I think. BMW sold one before that for $75,000. I cannot recall that the $75,000 card was that much better but it did sell first.

  • I just checked Lelands auctions they never sold a 51 Bowman mantle SGC 96

    I'm guessing about $80,000.

    Fletch1750 - Thanks for the correction. I was going from memory. I just checked my database and it was Heritage Auctions from September 2004 that sold an SGC 96 Mantle for $38,240.

  • The card sold in August 2005 in Superior for 46000.
