West Point Commem - Showing DCams w/o lampshades and Will these ever be worth Slabbing?

MrSpudMrSpud Posts: 4,499 ✭✭✭
I was practicing trying to bet a DCAM to show black/white without using a lampshade or other means of light diffusion and thought
this one came out OK. I did use one of those antiglare screens that people use on computer screens in between the light source
and the coin, but I didn't use anything to truly diffuse the light. The reflection on the rims and a little bit on the coin is from my hand,
I had to hold the coin capsule at just the slightest angle to get the fields to avoid any reflections in the fields. What do you think? Am
I getting close?

Also, while viewing the picture I was thinking that this coin really looks nice. Do you think this coin would ever be worth slabbing
(i.e. to show that it is of high quality in case I ever want to sell it or anything), or do all of the modern Commems look like this?

Thanks for looking image

Great photos, but most of these were well struck as were the non-proof ones. I have four of each and I can't tell the difference, they all look perfect to my eye.

Here's a DCAM shot sans lampshade. Nothing fancy in the setup or lighting method.

Russ, how do you get the fields to be free of reflections? I had to tilt the coin ever so slightly or there were all kinds of stray reflections. I ended up with black fields but also ended up with some reflections of my hand on the rims and the frost. I suppose that if I had a black glove mine would look like yours, but I figure there must be some other technique where you don't have to tilt the coin.

Asked and answered. image Although, in my case my camera has a swivel lens that can be angled negating the need to tilt the coin itself.

    Ok, I see.

By the way, I was just fooling around and made the picture black in white instead of in color. Does this one look better?

Nice pictures but don't pay the grading fees to slab it. I own 3 proofs and 3 uncirculated in Mint packing plus 2 PCGS MS69s. The slabbed coins wouldn't sell for enough to recover the purchase price plus fees.
The big problem with these coins is they are of interest only to officers. Enlisted vets have no interest as to where their officers came from.
