"This rare coin comes from the $145,000.00 J. C. Norwich Collection. We have been chosen to liquidate a large portion of this collection by Mr. Norwich's widow in order to cover the many expenses she now finds herself facing. This is your chance to get some great prices on some very nice and rare coins!"
I have left negative feedback. I wont openly encourage others to win items (they KNOW the seller is trying to scam others on) with the intent to leave negative feedback, because Ebay would frown upon it.

I Don't think it's funny, especially since I could have bought it from you!
I noticed this seller also getting many of his pics from www.davidlawrence.com. He just sold a 1900 Lib nickel in MS64 yesterday that is still for sale under the david lawrence website as a 1900 Liberty Nickel PCGS MS64 for $250. Check it out.
I emailed both David Lawrence and Ebay several days ago about many of this seller's coin pics being copied but I guess they never bothered to take down his auctions.

Hmmm. Looks like he will get away scott free. He just un-registered himself/herself from e-bay after the last big sale. Now it will be impossible to track this person or leave negative feedback.
Holy cow, this should have been obvious, I just went through the history of the guy for the first linki. 600 items mostly on Feb 4th and a few on the 3rd. Unregistered himself on the 5th. To many items to total but it looks like he will get away with somewhere betwee $50,000 and $100,000.

You have to be the dummest person on earth. Did you even look into the statute of limitations in your state. I doubt it lapsed already. Therefore you just admitted to a crime and opened up a whole world of civil liability. Its amazing you didn't get caught back then!
<< <i>Why do these jokers always put "God Bless" in their auctions? Do they think it will make it "right"? >>
Last week a friend of mine saw a listing for 2005 nickel rolls that was using a photo I did for a SMS Ocean in View DDO I was selling. It turns out that he used a bunch of my text related to the DDO discoveries, too. I contacted the guy, asked him to remove my photo and informed him that there is no relationship between the DDOs discovered in nickel sets and business strike nickel rolls. He basically told me to buzz off and that photos and listing info is public domain an free for anyone to use. It is against eBay policy, so I reported the theft and they removed his listing.
The funny thing is that this guy advertised as a trusted powerseller, repeatedly used 'God Bless You' in feedback and in his listings, and even had scripture quotes in the footer of the email he sent me. But when he got caught trying to scam people into buying his nickel roll sets for 3 times the going rate by a deceptive link to the 2005 5c DDO discoveries, so I don't think God was blessing his little operation. It was just a part of his scam.
FYI: Here is the exact quote of his message to me after eBay killed his listing...
"Wow - aren't YOU a manipulative liar? I take down the image and thus fulfilled your demand - how can you justify taking my auction down you swindler!"
In fact, he did remove the photo (but not the description) at just about the same time I reported the theft to eBay. They killed the listing anyway. Scams are all over eBay -- and if one involves my photos or description text, I will do something about it. Needless to say, I added this eBay member to my 'blocked' list.

I've already felt the clink of the handcuffs, my friend. Now I'm trying to make amends. (Hence the "sorta" part of my statement.)
I covered this in a rap I posted on here months ago!

But when the feds show up you're outta luck Sellin' some coins that you never had Makin' your momma cry is so bad So I was sittin' there in the big ol' clink Had plenty of time to myself to think I'm in here at twenty for sellin' some gold that I didn't own will be out by thirty that's just to old Luckily, there's a technicality, boom, just like that, I'm free...

6 years ago, I was apart of a scam where the seller went bad in his last 40 auctions. When I made my winning bid, the guy had almost perfect feedback. The highly touted Jefferson nickel collection was supposed to have many full steppers and high quality coins but the set was subpar without any full steppers. The dealer and I made a deal for one coin out of the entire set. After returning the rest of the collection that's when everything went bad. The seller had received some 35 negs and seemingly disappeared. For the next 4 years after several emails and no responses, I did eventually get back my $220 refund. The seller was the president of a coin club and when that changed, they finally answered my emails. One of the last ditch efforts/emails I sent them were copies of all past emails and that I was going to make this tranaction a topic of discussion on a couple of major forums. I don't really know if that emaul was the straw that broke the camels back or that club finally had some great people runnung it. I was really happy and a bit shocked that through persistance, I did get my refund, even after 4+ years had passed.

This thread reminds me once again that the federal government needs to step in with ebay and hold THEM accountable for ALL fraud. They (EBAY/PayPal) have all the pertinent information to snatch the con artists right outta their beds at nite..... Class action lawsuits are the only thing that will stop this sort of stuff. And I promise you with the trillions of dollars ebay makes...... they can afford to hire BIG BROTHER.

Heavens No! I think eBay does plenty already -- which in part, is why listing/selling fees are higher than they used to be. I hate laws and law suits aimed at punishing those not involved in the crime simply by association. Ebay, and any other free marketplace is full of fraud at every level - everything from exaggerated/incomplete/inaccurate descriptions to out-and-out con jobs. Holding eBay 'accountable for all fraud' would ruin or even kill off eBay. How about holding criminals accountable for their crimes. It is a law enforcement issue.

The people in 'TRUST & SAFETY' are pretty serious folks. The guy in charge is the real deal. But if sellers want to commit fraud, then they will do what it takes to scam people. Each individual state sets it's own penalties, not the feds.
