Now, when you use the ask a question feature you get this screen:

Anybody else see this yet?

<< <i>Yes, but it's not that new...maybe in the last couple of months?? >>

First time I've seen it, and not a day goes by that I don't ask a question. Maybe it was just implemented at whatever server cluster I'm hitting.

    Never seen it before... that's annoying because it'll now take more time to ask ridiculous questions to scum sellers imageigust;

I asked a seller a question last week and didn't get that security screen. Seems pretty new to me.

I have no idea what that accomplishes, but i have seen that confirmation on places like Ticketmaster as well.

    I've run into it before.

If the other person is not directly involved in a currently running auction then I think you will get that stupid security page with the code that you can barely read.

In the meantime I get about a dozen "spoof" e-mails a day and it's getting worse.

I haven't seen it at Ebay yet but one of my Visa card accounts does it now

It is a security code that you must type in, that is randomly selected. That way, computer weirdos can't write a program to ask a bizillion questions to overload the server, or on other sites, to keep the worms from probing and keep trying until they get into the secured site.

    I saw it once.
But since then I've used the ask the seller a question feature on other auctions and it hasn't come up.
Could this be something Ebay is using only for certain buyers or sellers?
    Hmmmmmmmmm.
So tell us, Russ...........what ya up to?

I asked several questions to several different sellers between 2 and 3 AM this morning and did not get that screen.

Okay, I just did a test. Sent an eMail to Marty from an active listing using "ask seller a question" - no security box. Sent an eMail from the "Contact Member" tab in the feedback profile - got the security box.

The reason for this new way of security on ebay is? to weed out some of the spoof/phish/spam emails that we often get in our emails, when the bad people try to get our account info.

To go further how many buyers/sellers contacts have you got from ebayers wanting to ask a question? This is ebays new approach of assuring you that contacts are safe. God Bless Ebay and the knuckleheads that work there.

Came across that last week. Numbers are distorted enough that the 6,8 & 9's start to look alike.

It gives you several chances to put in the right number; mine took three tries.image

Saw it yesterday when trying to use Contact Member.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

It prevents an automated process from using it. The security code is a graphic, not text, so can't be read by a bot program.

    Yes, ive seen it recently.

I get this often when emailing an Ebayer when I am not a bidder or asking a question on a pending auction. They often are hard to read, too.

I ask questions from time to time too, but I had to go through that BS for the first time yesterday.

"Sent an eMail from the "Contact Member" tab in the feedback profile - got the security box."

That's when I get it too. Seems like it started about two weeks ago.

I've only ever gotten it when I've asked an eBay a question where the auction has already ended. If still in progress, I do not get it.
