Bust Half NewP, 1825 O-108?

BlindedByEgoBlindedByEgo Posts: 10,754 ✭✭✭✭✭
Quick trip by a local dealer today and picked this one up - only a $100 coin, but fun 'cause I was pretty sure it was a scarcer Overton.

Would the true experts here be so kind as to their opinion of grade, and confirm the attribution?

Thanks in advance,

Keith

Not a bad looking VF. You are right on the attribution; it is O-108...an R-3
Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.

I'm in an honest mood. Looks in the VF range. An R-3 there is really no premium. Looks cleaned, and some rim damage. At 100.00 just have fun as you got no bargain IMO. Sorry.

At first glance I thought you had a "Guido" on the rim at obverse high noon. After looking at the reverse, I think it is simply a rim bruise. A "Guido" is a rim pinch. On some marriages they are quite common.

Probably makes VF20 for wear. R3 will not earn a premium. You have the correct obverse for the much rarer O-109 R5, wrong reverse. The R5 in condition like this coin might bring $300.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.

It appears to be a thoroughly cleaned VF and at $100 the dealer did you absolutely no favors.
