Hmmm, how will they decide who gets first pick at coins for their portfolio? The ultra rarities may get taken up soon. For things with very low pops... by the time "my" turn came around... all the cool coins I may have wanted to add to my portfolio will already be in other collectors.
Sooo.... who gets first pick? Surely they will have some kind of advangtage.
How does PCGS price ajdust rarities that are off the market? For example, what is an 1822 $5 worth?
Also, what about insider trading in rarities. Say a certain owner of a rarity with a very low pop knows that he is going to sell it? For example, TDN selling his 1885 TD for $3.3 mm? Hmm, I wonder whether he still has the 1884.
Guys...you can't buy an 1822 $5 or 1885 Trade dollar. You only start with a million bucks in your account. You can't buy a $3,000,000 coin if you only have $1,000,000 in your account. This isn't like the coin business where you get 30 days to pay, or like Washington where you can run a deficit.
If you want a head start on the competition, start cruising the price guide now and pick out the underpriced coins. Build your portfolio now and get on early on March 1 or 2 and swoop up the goodies.
Hey cladking, all we modern nuts have to do is snap up the coming keys that will actually move over the rest of the year and hold on to them. Little gems like ..... oh yeah, this is a contest..... all you classisists just try to catch up with us!! Rob
Modern dollars are like children - before you know it they'll be all grown up.....

Actually, for some of these really low pop coins it could make a difference. Question is... are those ones necessarily the ones that are going to have the biggest gain over the short term? Probably not. So I guess the real question is... if you don't think you will actually be the winner... do you just want to fill your portfolio with the coolest coins possible (ie, your dream coins) regardless of whether they will rise in value. Much like picking your favorite team in fantasy football even if they suck. Haha.

If in the course of trading our portfolios we are fortunate to get to sufficiently high levels, some over $1M are buyable right? However, unless one hits the market over the remaining months, it is unlikely to be repriced up or down and not the best of candidates for a virtual market.
It would also be nice to see a second kind of contest which is also much simpler in that the participants get to buy the coins only once in the first month of the contest and there is no trading thereafter. Then at the end of the contest which could be as long as 1 through 5 years intervals, calculate who had the best growth.
The concept behind this is a buy and hold kind of thinking which is less dealer oriented and more collector oriented. Of course, the detailed holdings of the contestants are not disclosed until after the one month open purchasing period is over.
Just a thought.
Also, have you thought of a smaller more YN oriented contest in which the maximum budget is $1,000 or so? Might be a good learning tool for the YN's out there on how to assemble different kind of sets?
I feel sorry for the person who must keep track of all activity - if a few hundred people enter, it would be a full time job to keep up at the start - hopefully many people will buy and hold
Mr. Dense checking in. What happens if 5 people want a 3 pop coin? Is it the pop or the price that counts? And if it's the pop, does that mean that someone who wants a "gone" coin (if there is a pop limit) has to be bid up to add to your list? If that is the case, then a couple guys could do it with one coin.
I'm confused. I'm old. Could you just send me the 10 grand? Heck make it ten bucks and I'll just stay out of it.
Edited to add that my brain can't get itself around any possiblility other than picking the picks and just waiting the year. What am I missing?

First come first served. The first guy might get the whole population though.
Some people get in and out of the market quickly or at least they would if it wasn't overly expensive. It's free here.
I doubt he'll send you the money but if he does please mention I can be bought off as well.
I would guess that they have some sort of software that will be "running" the constest. Much like the fantasy football software. That would be the only way to manage this. It would take hours and hours of someone's time otherwise.

I know their will be people trying to use real soin purchases to influence the price guides.

I'll be in a plane on my way to PA for a show so I'm off the hook if it's not on.

That should be "scoop" up the goodies. Or, in the alternative, "swoop" down on the goodies.

Looking for PCGS AU58 Washington's, 32-63.
