1851 o gold dollar, pretty sure it's cleaned. worth keeping?
Looks to be au58 or best case MS 60 by NGC standards. SO how bad are the hairlines? light, moderate? Is it fair to say that a light cleaning will decrease the value of the coin by say 25% on average? Would you as a collector ever buy a cleaned coin?
Please advise.
Thanks

As a rule, I try to avoid cleaned coins, but cleaning is a relative term, and there are exceptions to every rule. I have both knowingly and unknowingly purchased cleaned coins in the past, but they were generally rare coins and ones that do not often come to the market in any grade.
