Ebay Ethics: Some Guy Copy/Pasted my exact description. Reportable?

Sorry it's not coin related, but I think it's relevant:

My auction:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5852156940

Other auction:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5852988571

I'm sure the guy has the same exact product, but it annoys me that he would copy my description word for word with the same formatting (not to mention he undercut my shipping fee by $0.24).

Is this reportable? Even if it's not, it's not like I'm getting ripped off since I have plenty of watchers and this item has a known market price.

Ebay and Ethics are 2 words that should never be used in the same sentence.
  • Oh and he jumped in as a 5-day auction that ends just before mine (mine is a 7 day auction) image
  • Yes it is reportable and they will pull his auction.
    To to ....................'Security Center'
    and find 'Report another problem'
    then 'Problems with sellers'
then section 'Problem your're having isn't listed'
    then email problem in question.
  • okay, thanks for the help

  • Ebay Link to Report This

This should help to get there faster. I had a guy do this to me... 5 day auction to finish around the same time as mine. I reported it with 2 days to go, but they didn't move fast enough.. I wasn't surprised.. and his sold for a higher price.. poop
  • If you didn't copyright it, it's free game!

Nothing unlawful, maybe he or she is just lazy.

While not a crime, it does violate ebay's seller policies of copying other seller's images/descriptions.

  • eBay members are not allowed to use another eBay user's pictures or descriptions in their listings or About Me page without the owner's permission. Listings that violate eBay's Picture and Description Theft policy may be removed early. Multiple violations of this policy can result in suspension.

The following examples are not allowed on eBay.

A seller doesn't know the best way to describe an item. The seller copies a substantial amount of another's description and pastes it into a listing.
A seller takes someone else's picture and includes it in a listing since it looks very similar to the item the seller is offering.
A seller likes the way a competitor's About Me page looks. The seller copies the look and feel and a substantial amount of the text and creates an About Me page.
  • Yep, I had this happen once. Ebay, upon verification, Ebay will pull his auction, and give him a strike. If you get a certain amount, I think three, in a certain time period, they will shut the unethical ebayer down permenantly.
