what are old 2x2s made of?

I have a lot of 2x2s from my younger days (the early 70s). Some are the staple kind and some the self adhesive style. Are these old ones made of pvc or some other dangerous material? If so, I will change out to some new ones. And, if I need to change them, is there anything I need to do to remove any "residue" from the pvc or any other harmful material? These coins are not worth much, as I was only about 10 years old then, but they hold fond memories, and who would want to harm any coin?
Thanks for all your advice that you continue to give,

<< <i>If it was me, with the very low cost of new 2x2's and not knowing for sure what the windows in thirty year old 2x2's are made of, I'd switch them out to be on the safe side.
That is a good idea.
