That is an outstanding image! Old copper is one of the most difficult to get right, and that one is superb.

    Beautiful coins and pictures.

How about a little education for the masses. Are they all the same/duplicates or not?image

I don't know what I'm more envious of: People who have lovely coins like these, or people who can image them so well.

    Great stuff!

image , but I am strongly leaning toward being envious of those who can image well. image

    Thanks for the compliments -

They are all different die varieites, only some of which are listed in the Redbook.

The first shot is a 'P Below Bust', identified as Nelson 11 which I believe is the finest known of the variety.

The second is the rare and bizarre 'Long Head', Nelson 10 which is not listed in the Redbook. I believe this is also the finest known of the variety.

The third is the 'Imperial Head', Nelson 4 which is perhaps in the top 3 or 4 known of the variety.

The fourth is the 'Stern Head', Nelson 9 ex-Eliasberg which is probably in the top 3 or 4 know of that type.

The fifth is the VOOE Populi, Nelson 3 ex-James Stack which could be in the top 2 or 3 of that variety.

Excellent coins and pix. Glad to see someone else collects this rather obscure series. Here's a real oddball N13 (P below bust) I picked up at a Bowers & Merena sale a number of years back. It appears to be struck on a scyphate planchet (dish-like), much like many of the coins from the Byzantine era.

Now thats cool! Plus when anyone at anytime in the future does a search for the word 'scyphate' here in the PCGS forum they will find this post!

I settled on this series partly by accident, partly because I always thought they looked cool in the Redbook and partly because they are (or were) affordable.

VERY cool and pretty coins. The 4th and the 5th, especially the 4th, look like some ancient coins I've seen with Nero's portrait: Thick neck, bull-doggish look, up-lifted chin.

I have one Voce Populi coin, but it's never really excited me. Indeed, until now I could never see why anyone really cared about this coin. But, after looking at your coins, I can see precisely how and why others could be excited by this series. These are truly nice coins and truly stunning pictures.

Kidding aside (I never kid about Voce Populis), with a little effort you could probably build a good looking set of XF+ coins (except for the Nelson 10) for between $500 and $1000 per piece. Thats good value in my opinion.

Throw in a nice Voce Populi farthing and thats maybe $2000.

10 years from now, regardless of any current coin boom or impending bust cycle, you'll not regret doing so.

Those are cool. The die sinker of the first one had a bit of a stuttering problem, I'd say.

This one is 211 years, possibly 212 years old. I think that qualifies for very early image
