Mars Attacks Set in PSA4/5

I'm toying with the idea of putting this set together in PSA4 & 5. Would $1000.00 be enough to accomplish this? I know that cards Nos. 1 & the Checklist are the most valuable - how much do they sell for in these grades. How about the rest of the cards in the set? Any help would be appreciated.

I think I can help you some on this one. I started my mid grade Mars Attacks set about a year ago for basically the same reason as you and it has been a very interesting project. As you stated the first and last cards are pricey and to a lesser extent other cards in the set also go for higher values (ex;#19 Burning Flesh/#21 Prize Captive and others). If you go to my set on the Registry and look under owners comments you will see numbers that represent the amount of money I have invested in putting the set together along with the average price of the cards (53 for me). I still do not have the last two cards and the last Checklist I bid on in a PSA 5 went for approximately $400 and there is a PSA 6 on EBAY currently at the $500 mark so your $1000 budget may get a bit stretched as you go along. Another thing that makes this set hard to collect is related to the fact that PSA as of today's date has still not weighted the set so when the bidding starts on EBAY for various cards in the 4/5/6/7OC/80C there seems to be no rhyme or reason to the bidding so prices go up and down dramatically depending on what night your on there. With that all said I still have enjoyed putting this set together and I am looking forward to completing it. Good luck with it if you decide to proceed and be patient especially with bidding and stick to your budget as much as possible.

Interesting question Warhound - I've gone about collecting this set in a different way. I chose $1000 as my budget and decided to collect the best set I could for around $20 a card. If you look at my set on the registry you'll see the grades are all over the board and I've had to settle for a #1 in 2 (mc) and the checklist in 3 (mk); however, I have stayed within budget. My guess is to collect in straight 4 and 5 is going to cost you at least $40-50 a piece for about 50 of the cards, the 3 or so high demand cards will run up around $100 and the first and last cards will be $200-300 or more. I think you are looking at 1750.00 to 2000.00 for a set in true ex 5

that is nice centered examples, not cards that are downgraded due to issues.

The checklist can be from 200 to 300 in 5
card 1 in five is at least 100.00

then you have a few keys like 36, 22 etc.

I am not all to familiar with the pops at this level but as of late I have seen many many example up for auction. also a guy named botts has a store and has many for sale. make sure you really look at these though as many have problems.
