Registered & insured for full value, coins in plastic dollar tubes, in a small box well packed with padding.
    When in doubt, don't.

What he said, but use the large flat rate priority mail box, since the weight is going to be pretty substantial.
  • Well I happen to have 57 au-ms Morgans all in 2 1/2X2 1/2 flips like PCGS likes you to use.
I have little white stickers on them with date and mintmark. They all fit snugly in a Intercept
Shield box designed to hold 20 ANACS slabs. This box will be placed in a larger box with padding
I am going to send it off registered/insured to messydesk. image Only thing is now that I know the
1893-O is worth about a grand maybe I have to figure out what to insure it for. This could be a
problem if it gets lost as you have to prove value. I'm not quite sure how to prove I didn't send
    a box of rocks. Joe
  • Take many many pictures before you send this box.

  • Yes. I had no idea the value of some of these till I looked them up tonight. Thanks
everyone who has helped me out today. One question. I seem to remember when
sending registered they make you usepaper wrapping tape as opposed to fiberglass
reinforced tape. Something to do with the ink stamps on the seems. Does anyone
    know if this is true?
  • MadMartyMadMarty Posts: 16,697 ✭✭✭
THat is true, you have to use paper reinforced tape!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

If raw in plastic dollar tubes. In slabs use Safe-T-Mailers

Registered Mail, insured for full value is the safest.

Armored car, escorted by motorcade staffed by licensed, bonded sercurity personel armed with automatic weapons and shoulder mounted armor piercing anti-tank missiles.

Of course it isn't really cost effective. image

Registered insured at the post office is a whole lot cheaper and only a little less safe.

If you can show the post office receipts of coins you sent that were subsequently lost in the mail that should suffice. I've never had a case where I couldn't show a receipt. Or take them down to your local dealer, and have him verify approx. value of what you are sending.

Packages sent insured mail only are lost far more often.

If anything happens to the coins, have Roadrunner give you a price on the value, according to recent comments sent HE KNOW EVERYTHING!

  • It is just that twice I have had to take advantage of postal insurance. The first time
I sold a $75 coin on e-bay so I was able to produce the paypal receipt and e-bay auction
to prove value. The second time the post office creased a Coppercoins original piece
of artwork. Chuck sent me a new one, I assume the post office paid him , and they
gave me the creased one back.
This is different. The coins were gifted to me and their is no receipt. The person who
gifted them has no receipt and can not be contacted. For all intent and purposes I pulled
these coins out of circulation at face value. My value was$2,500-$3,000, but what do I
know about Morgans? PCGS value is closer to $9,000. The price difference for insurance
is only a couple bucks so I insured them at PCGS value. I have scans of the better coins,
the submission forms with values listed, and the check I sent. I would obviously hate to
lose this package and have nothing to show for it. Joe

Registered/insured mail. You won't be covered otherwise.
  • Well I sent the package off this morning registered/insured. I did stop by the office to ask
what is acceptable documentation for value. They told me my estimated value on the submission
forms(I have a copy) along with collaboration from the PCGS price guide would be sufficient.
I am excited. Morgan VAMS are a new avenue of collecting for me. Perhaps a slippery slope
    to classics. image
