If we goto a 100 point scale... *shudders*
Will there ever be a coin that grades 100?

I might finally have enough money to buy a 69 or 70!!!

Good one!
Joseph
Ebay scammer put up a blurry picture of an MS70 coin in the new grading system.. So unsuspecting fool bids thinking he is getting an MS70 that has been the standard for years.
People like me who do more raw business than anything else won't be affected one way or another.
People that aren't too tied to the scale will probably keep their original holders and not pay too much attention to the change.
The registry will encounter a schism, some will bolt never to be seen again, others will submit every coin they have to keep their position on the registry intact.
Overall, I think the TPGs get a burst of energy only to be followed by wailing and gnashing of teeth and a lot of bad feelings.
Ditch the idea, it only will cause lack of good faith.
with a gnashing of teeth and the cry that the
sky is falling. It is sure to be the end of life as we
know it. However, change happens, life goes on and
eventually everyone gets used to it.

But if PCGS pisses off the collecting community so much that it becomes a laughing stock as ACG was, those coins might wind up being worthless.
What's the difference between a 99 & 100? 99 to 100 resubmissions.
Such a change would achieve everything a 100 point scale would, without the problems.
Strategy: float a radical change, then the significant but not so radical change seems psychologically more acceptable.
Just watch.

That there will will be much wailing and complaining. And within three years it will be as if nothing ever happened, people will be buying a selling coins in the new slabbed holders, older 70 scale holders will make up less than a quarter of the slabs on the market, and people will be complaining that they are not grading consistantly, and they will be crossing the coins back and forth trying for an upgrade.

There's one more difference. A lot of people, myself included will simply leave the hobby. I've been doing this on and off for over 40 years. The last few years I have put a great deal more money into it. Far more in a single year than the previous 40 combined, even allowing for inflation.
This would be the last straw for me. I'm just one guy, but I won't be alone by any means. In a few years the dust will have settled, that's true. The ill will created will linger much longer and this self inflicted black eye may take a lot longer to heal than the TPGs think. I know I'd do all I could to discourage others to become a puppet to the TPGs.
I might even have to reverse my beliefs and agree with some of the old timers who think slabs are the Devil's work and the worst thing to ever happen to the hobby.
Who's to say that the 100 point scale won't have a relatively short life when the TPGs see another $$ grab and decide to improve to 1000 points for the next generation of suckers.
Count me out.

That's Ok, afew people leaving won't really hurt things, and if a lot leave it means lower demand and lower prices for those of us who stay. Especially if a bunch of those leaving decide to dump their material on the way out.
I don't tink the "black eye" will really last that long because one, people tend to have short memories, two, there will constantly be newbies coming in who never experienced it, and three, the one swho would have remembered it a griped about it are the ones that would leave.
Please do discourage people from becoming puppets of the TPG's. I've been trying for close to thirty years. Maybe you'll have better luck than I have. One reason I tend to fail is #2 in the paragraph above.

Ahh another potential convert.
the short answer is yes, they already exist.
<< <i>Will there ever be a coin that grades 100? >>
Yes. Won't PCGS have to cross all PCGS PR/MS70 graded coins to PCGS PR/MS100?
<< <i>ah, the voice of reason!! or is that an echo?? >>
I guess it's a little of both. Sorry Keets I didn't read your above post.
