A tad too nice for an MS-65, so I will go with:

    MS-66RD

    MS-63 RD

Weak strike, the mark on the O and the spot on the E

Plus is that a mark on her cheek, or a trick of the light?

    MS64 RD

Obverse- A couple of hits on the headdress.
Reverse- Hit on O in ONE and spot on E in CENT.

64RD. I'm cruel, know little about cooper, but I think the ends of the feathers are supposed to have better detail on a full strike, so I wouldn't give it full gem status with what appears to be soft strike.

09's are always weakly struck. This is a tough one for me, its either a high end 64 Rd or low end 65 Rd. Since PCGS always shrivels up on IHC's, I'd say 64.

Greg: the poor feather striking is typical of an 09

    64RD but I have a hunch it graded 63RD.

It has a really nasty and deep spot in the E of CENT, enough to grade any IH 63. It also appears to have a small gouge to the left and under the ear lobe. But 09-S's get special treatment by the best grading services. Feather weakness in the first three is a given - this one looks better there than many 65RDs. And this coin is remarkably spot free for an 09-S except for that nasty E.

The type of spot it has on the reverse ruins an otherwise very eye appealing 1909-S Indian Cent. Such is the case with this date, it's a teaser.

Nice strike. Doesn't have the overly wood-grained look as some of this date do.

    Russ,

Stay away from IHC's!!!!! Isn't there a JKF with a funny strike to look for?

64RD. That was my original answer becuase I assumed that the weak strike was some wear. If these dates are typically weakly struck, then I will go up to 65RD.

They are all weak and they get the benefit of the doubt from PCGS - 64R.

Yes, 1909-S all lack detail on the first feather, but this is a fully struck coin. The detail was missing on the hub. If you find one with a full first feather, you better check the Mintmark. It's counterfeit!

Also most 1909-S Indians come with a pale straw color. This one looks like one of the exceptions.

    I vote MS64RD.

Having been educated on the typical weak strike for this date, I wish to be a little less grouchy and change my vote to MS65RD.

It's graded MS65RD, and housed in a green label holder. I wouldn't be surprised if the spot on the E in CENT developed after it was graded. But, it doesn't seem nearly as prominent looking at the coin actual size.

One of problems of imaging small cents as accurately as you are, at this size, is every problem is accentuated. But I love that aspect of your new IH images. I agree with you about that spot possibly being an active one in an old green label holder. But who knows, it may just be the type of 65RD you'd pass on even though it's accurately graded. There are many of those in this date.
