Cohen diagnostics for 1825 1/2 cents?
Could someone please explain the Cohen 1 and 2 diagnostics for the 1825 half cents? Thank you and Merry Christmas.
I've had great transactions with people like: drwstr123, CCC2010, AlanLastufka, Type2, Justlooking, zas107, StrikeOutXXX, 10point, 66Tbird, and many more!

Cohen-2 has that curl above the space between the 2 and 5 in the date. The second star to the right of the date is also noticeably repunched. This ide was used to mint the proofs of the date. This the rarer of the two and is quite a find when clashed and cracked.

1825 C-1 obv: Curl above the 5. Plain repunching on second star. Slight repunching on the first, second, seventh, and ninth stars.
1825 C-1 rev: Same as 1825 C-2, but earlier. Repunching on HALF CENT. A faint outline of the lieft side of an extra A is just left of the second A in AMERICA. A very faint, curved guide line is visible between the bases of S O. Both of these makrs later fade out.
1825 C-2 obv: Curl above 25. Twelfth star is repunched. A faint die scratch from the top of the curl above T in LIBERTY extends right almost to the border.
1825 C-2 rev: Same as 1825 C-1, but earlier. Die repolished. Repunching is still visible on much of HALF CENT. The leaf above the stem end now lacks detail.
C-1 is an R-3. C-2 is an R-1.
Other than the position of the curl versus the date, the easiest way for me to tell these two apart is the repunched 12th star. If it present, it is a C-2.
Hope this helps...Mike
