free copies of VAMview issue #2 now available

A free copy of VAMview issue #2, a quarterly e-mail PDF magazine focusing on VAM collecting and pricing, is now available to anyone who would like to see it. This issue is 42 pages long and contains several informative articles:

• 1887 VAM 1A Donkey Tail
• PCGS begins attributing VAMs
• A beginner’s guide to Peace dollar VAMs
• The thrill of the hunt
• Be careful VAM sellers!
• Identifying 1899 Micro-O varieties

In addition, listings of 1,025 actual sales transactions of various VAMs that have occurred during the last four months are shown, to assist you in determining VAM values.

Received mine in my email. Look forward to abusing my companies duplex printer so I can get a printed copy formatted correctly as I did with the first issue.

Uhh, Houston, we have a problem. This issue is not formatted in the same manner (printers pagination) as the first issue, and subsequently doesn't print properly.

Any helpful hints Dennis???

This issue has not been layed out in "printer's pagination", because only two or three of you could figure out how to make it work and everyone else wanted a normal sequential version.

So since the printer's pagination format is a major pain in the keetser to lay out anyway, we decided not to do it again.

Great, I've been exposed as a minority. Thanks Dennis.

I just finished reading the issue and let me say it's really just packed full of new information and amazing sale prices.

There's even an introduction into Peace dollar VAM collecting by ANACS grader & SSDC regional coordinator Eric Justice. VAMview, it's not just for Morgan's anymore.

Way to go Dennis!!!!

I was just noticing the prices for some of the 1878-S varieties, man, I'm sitting on a fortune!

It is the opinion of my 1878-S VAM mentor (and me

) that the v23 is really v37, therefore it doesn't exist, but I would have to check my notes on that.

Jeff:

The 1885-P VAM 8 "Dash" is in the same apparent status. Everyone I know who has one (and there aren't many) have double-checked and all the coins have turned out to be VAM 22. The evidence is mounting that VAM 8 (no doubling on eagle's wings) doesn't actually exist.

The issue with the 1878-S vams, as told to me, is that the first 25 or so vams were documented prior to the realization of the engraved wing for that particular year and mint mark. The plate coins had been long gone so there was no definite means to confirm this. Every coin that has been found to be slabbed as a v23 has always turned out to be a v37 instead.

Same thing with the 1878-S v2, one of those have never been confirmed.

I heard indirectly Calvin Cherry has submit and received an 1878-S v97 just recently.

Love the VAMview effort. For those of you that haven't noticed, the PCGS board is well represented... Dennis, Jack, Becky and myself all authoring topics. Great work everyone. Its this kind of community support that really makes the VAM world so great!
