Opinions/Price

This is the second time this coin has been up for auction with no bids so far.

It looks pretty clean in the photo. but I have no idea of the value.

What do you all think and what is the value?

1954 Swiss St. Gallen Medal

Thanks,
Larry

Did the seller lower the asking price between the first and second offering?

It's a bit modern for my tastes, but to each their own... image

What is the determining factor as to whether or not shooting medals/thalers are listed in Krause? Authorization and/or sanctioning of the event or coinage? I've seen plenty of both, including some with denominations that are not in Krause...

    Thanks coinpictures.

The price was not lowered on the second auction.

I don't know the answer to your second question. I looked on Craig Keplinger's site, but could not find this one. Maybe someone else can answer that one.

I just collect coins with bears on them. Age doesn't count, but price/condition usually does.image

    I have a 2005 Panda, LOL.

    Thanks again,
    Larry

It's an interesting piece. The bear looks to have a pretty weird-lookin' shootin' iron, there! I wonder who the lady with the Star of David pendant is.

Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.

Interesting item. I would guess that most U. S. dealers would pay $1 to $5 for this kind of material, 340 mintage not withstanding. At 50 mm it is big, so that helps, as does the design with the bear. $25 sounds reasonable for retail value and might be about what the seller paid for it. Resale all depends on finding buyers that are interested. A no reserve auction starting at $1 might bring in under $5, or maybe above $25, if two bidders get interested.

It might be a bit too low in my opinion, but of course, supply and demand. image

And before I forget, popcoin, you should check this link out: Link

Most certainly worth a try. image

The Star of David might in fact be a representation of the Edelweiss, the famous flower that grows in the mountains there.

Well, two hours to go and no bids. I think I will wait and see if he relists at a lower price.

Too much (for me) to pay for a coin noone knows much about.

BTW, gxseries, thanks for the link. I have put that one on my watch list.image

    Thanks everyone,

It's not unusual for medals to be unrecognised, or that little is known about,,, This is a COIN forum after all. If it fits your collection, buy it. I collect lions and knew nothing about some of the medals I purchased until AFTER I had bought them, because they fit my collecting interest. For that size, quality and series, the price seems in line.
