How does PCGS grading guarantee work?

I have purchased 3 proof 70 DCAM gold eagles. Two of them are 70's for sue. BUT, on one of the coins, there are some minute spots under magnification. They are very small and look like dust particles and are white. BUT, if you tilt the coin you can see they are on the coin and are red in color. Wouldn't this exclude them from the 70 grade? If so, and I submit them fore the grading guarantee, how does that work? The coin is listed in the PCGS guide at $1100 in 70 and $400 in 69. I bought the coin for less than the $1100. I've seen the coin at all different levels on E-bay, Teletrade and others. Thanks for the input in advance! Ray

Send the coin in for the grade guarantee and wait until you get a note back with your coin saying it's acceptable for the grade image

This is not my area of expertise--my concern relates to the illusory guaranty of authenticity (Where's Waldo?)!

The question is directed to anyone whom might have had dealings in this area before. Thanks! Ray

Well, I just went through this process so I can tell you. You send it in for grade guarantee (write it on the submission). You pay the same price as regular submission but there are no guarantees for time (took nearly 3 months to get mine dealt with). David Hall is the one who looks at the coin, no one else, to determine if it is worthy of a guarantee. This was something three different customer service reps told me. Then you'll eventually get a call from a woman whose name I could never quite understand but is nice and she'll tell you whether they will pay you or not. After that step, it's a few more weeks of confusion before you get anything. Also, when it is a grade guarantee the customer reps don't get any info on it so they'll never know a status beyond "It's in grading" until you prod them to actually call someone or email.

I thought I'd add what mine was. It was a very attractive 1827 bust half in AU58 I bought from legend for $500. Now I think I know why Laura wanted to sell it. It developed PVC and I sent it in. They offered me $400 plus keeping the coin which I thought was a very fair offer. So now I have a check and the coin raw. Just don't know what I want to do with the coin. Looks like they did stablize the coin but there is probably some minor PVC damage.
